Aleem Dar to retire at the end of 2024 25 domestic season

At the end of the 2024–25 Pakistan Cricket Board season, Aleem Dar, who is recognized as one of the most esteemed and admired cricket umpires globally, will announce his retirement, capping a career spanning almost 25 years. Aleem is a three-time winner of the ICC Umpire of the Year award, having been a true gentleman both on and off the field (2009-2011).

Aleem, 56, also had a successful playing career, participating in 17 first-class and 18 List-A games between 1986 and 1998. In 1998, he made his first-class umpiring debut in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He was a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires from 2003 to 2023, during which time he developed a stellar reputation for his ability to handle players, comprehend playing circumstances, maintain composure, and make excellent decisions.

He is qualified to officiate in ODIs and T20Is since he is a member of the PCB's Elite Panel and one of only four Pakistani umpires on the ICC's International Panel.

Aleem has officiated in 145 Tests, 231 ODIs, 72 T20Is, 5 WT20Is, 181 first-class matches, and 282 List-A matches to date—a record breaking number.

His contributions to the sport go much beyond these figures, and his politeness and professionalism have made him a cherished figure all throughout the world.

Aleem Dar gave this reflection after deciding to retire:

"I have dedicated nearly 25 years of my life to umpiring, and I have been honored to officiate some of the most memorable games involving the best players of this generation." Working with some of the best match officials in the world has been an honor, and I have always endeavored to maintain the greatest standards of sportsmanship.

But all wonderful things must come to an end, and this is the right moment for me to devote all of my attention to my charitable and humanitarian activity. I am deeply committed to my hospital project and other activities, which demand my undivided attention and support.

"I also believe it's the proper time to move aside and give over the spotlight to up-and-coming umpires, having accomplished nearly everything I had hoped to in umpiring with the unflinching support of my peers and colleagues. My wish is that they would also be afforded the same opportunities to leave their imprint on the magnificent game of cricket and proudly represent Pakistan.

"This season will be my last, even though I will still officiate." Having said that, I'm still dedicated to helping and encouraging the upcoming generation of match officials, and I'll always be here to provide advice to anyone interested in a career in this admirable field.
