Champions Trophy 2013 Final: IND Edge ENG in Thrilling Clash

Champions Trophy 2013 Final: IND Clinch Thriller Over ENG

The ICC Champions Trophy 2013 final at Edgbaston, Birmingham produced a thrilling contest as IND edged past ENG by just 5 runs in a rain-affected 20-over showdown. In a match filled with twists and turns, MS Dhoni’s tactical brilliance and Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round heroics proved decisive as IND defended a modest total of 129/7 to secure their second Champions Trophy title.

IND’s Struggle with the Bat

Batting first, IND found the going tough against a disciplined ENG bowling attack. Rohit Sharma (9) and Shikhar Dhawan (31 off 24) started positively, but regular wickets pegged IND back.

Virat Kohli (43 off 34) played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings.

Dinesh Karthik (6) and Suresh Raina (1) fell cheaply, exposing IND’s middle order.

MS Dhoni (0) fell to Ravi Bopara, putting IND in deep trouble at 66/5 in 12.6 overs.

Jadeja stepped up when IND needed him the most. His unbeaten 33 off 25 balls provided the finishing push, taking IND to 129/7 in 20 overs. Bopara was the pick of the bowlers for ENG, bagging 3/20 in 4 overs.

ENG’s Chase Falters Under Pressure

Chasing 130 for victory, ENG’s top order struggled against IND’s spin attack.

Alastair Cook (2) and Jonathan Trott (20) fell early, leaving ENG at 28/2.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja tightened the grip, dismissing Bell (13), Root (7), and Morgan (33).

At 110/4 in 17.3 overs, ENG seemed in control, but Ishant Sharma changed the game in the 18th over, taking two wickets in two balls Morgan (33) and Bopara (30) to turn the match on its head.

With ENG needing 6 runs off the final ball, Jadeja bowled a dot, sealing a historic 5-run win for IND.
