The Afghan women's cricket team members who are currently living in Australia have expressed a desire to play together, and Australian Cricket has joined forces to help them achieve this goal.
The Afghanistan Women's XI will play a Cricket Without Borders XI in a Twenty20 match at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on the morning of January 30.
As part of the celebration of women's cricket and inclusivity at that momentous occasion, this falls on the first day of the CommBank Women's Ashes Day/Night Test Match at the MCG.
The exhibition game will showcase the Afghanistan players' talent and tenacity as well as the work of those who have made it possible for them to be included in the Australian society and the sport.
This includes Premier and Community Clubs, State and Territory Associations, and other organizations and people who have helped them relocate and given them chances to play cricket in Australia.
The Australian government and other stakeholders, as well as the Afghanistan women's players who will compete in the match, have been consulted in the organization of the match.
CA Chief Executive Nick Hockley stated:
Since the Afghanistan women's team moved to Australia, a large number of cricket and community members have united to support them, and this game will honor their community service.
"I'm thrilled that their goal of playing together will come true in this exhibition game, which will be a fantastic complement to the numerous events that are taking around the Day/Night Women’s Ashes Test.”"
