Australian squad for India Under-19 Men's Tour
The Australian team for the forthcoming multi-format Under-19 Men's Tour of India has been announced by Cricket Australia (CA).
A 16-player roster was chosen for the tour, which starts in September and consists of three 50-over and two four-day matches, in collaboration with State Talent Managers and the Youth Selection Panel.
Following their matchup in the 2024 ICC Men's Under 19 World Cup final in February, Australia will play a familiar foe in the opening series of the new World Cup cycle.
Australia won the Under-19 World Cup without losing, defeating India, the reigning champions, by 79 runs in the championship match held in Benoni, South Africa.
Aidan O'Connor, a rookie for the Tasmania Tigers, and Ollie Peake, a Victorian, were both chosen to visit India, meaning that two players from the World Cup team are still available for selection to the Under 19 team.
Peake, who was 17 at the time, scored a crucial 49 in the semifinal and an undefeated 46 off 43 balls in the championship match to lead Australia to win.
The tour's final schedules and broadcast information should be finalized soon.
Cricket Australia's Head of National Development, Sonya Thompson, stated:
The start of a new World Cup cycle and the chance to give Australia's rising talent the chance to compete internationally are exciting developments.
"A new group of players will get the opportunity to compete in a multi-format series and be tested in adjusting to situations outside of Australia during the forthcoming India tour.
"Australian Cricket is committed to expanding opportunities for our most talented emerging players at both a domestic and international level, and one of our top priorities is making sure our pathway programs are strong."
