NZ Secure 5-Wicket Victory Over BAN in ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Rawalpindi, 24 February 2025 – In an exciting CT 2025 Group A encounter, NZ secured a 5-wicket win over BAN, successfully chasing down 236 in 46.1 overs at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A well-balanced performance saw Michael Bracewell shine with both bat and ball, earning the Player of the Match award for his exceptional contributions.
BAN’s Steady Batting Effort
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, BAN managed to post a competitive 236/9 in 50 overs. While captain Najmul Hossain Shanto provided stability with 77 off 110 balls, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to convert starts into big scores.
Tanzid Hasan (24), Towhid Hridoy (7), and Mushfiqur Rahim (2) fell cheaply, unable to counter the disciplined bowling attack from NZ. The middle order saw a valiant effort from Jaker Ali, whose 45 off 53 ensured that BAN crossed the 230-run mark.
The star with the ball for NZ was Michael Bracewell, who ripped through the BAN lineup with 4 wickets for just 26 runs in his 10-over spell. William O’Rourke also impressed, picking up 2 wickets for 48 runs, while Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson chipped in with one wicket each.
NZ’s Chase Led by Ravindra’s Brilliance
Chasing 237, NZ had an early setback when Will Young was dismissed for a duck off Taskin Ahmed’s delivery in the very first over. However, Devon Conway (30 off 45) and captain Kane Williamson (5 off 10) attempted to rebuild before BAN’s bowlers struck again, reducing NZ to 72/3 in 15.4 overs.
It was then that Rachin Ravindra stepped up with a match-defining innings. The young left-hander played a superb knock of 112 off 105 balls, anchoring the chase and keeping NZ in control. His innings, laced with 12 boundaries and 1 six, proved to be the turning point.
Tom Latham (55 off 76) provided crucial support, while Glenn Phillips (21)* and Bracewell (11)* ensured there were no last-minute hiccups as NZ crossed the target in 46.1 overs, sealing a comfortable victory.
