BAN vs ZIM Test Series 2024: Bangladesh to Host Zimbabwe in April
Cricket fans are in for an exciting Test series as Zimbabwe (ZIM) tours Bangladesh (BAN) for a two-match red-ball contest in April. This highly anticipated series will take place outside Dhaka, with matches scheduled in Sylhet and Chattogram. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that the visiting squad will arrive on April 15 but will not play any practice matches before the first Test.
The series begins on April 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, followed by the second Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from April 28. ZIM will conclude their tour on May 3. Notably, the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur has been left out of the itinerary, just as it was in BAN's previous home series against Sri Lanka (SL) last year.
Although this series is not part of the ICC World Test Championship, it was initially slated for last year. However, due to the teams' preparations for the T20 World Cup, the Test series was postponed, and a five-match T20I series was played instead. Now, BAN and ZIM are set to renew their Test rivalry in what promises to be a competitive battle.
ZIM last played a Test in BAN in February 2020, a match they would rather forget as BAN secured an innings-and-106-run victory. Historically, ZIM has toured BAN for Test cricket five times 2001, 2005, 2014, 2018, and 2020 winning two out of ten encounters. Their first victory came in 2001 during their golden era, led by legendary players such as Andy Flower, Grant Flower, Heath Streak, Stuart Carlisle, and Henry Olonga. More recently, in 2018, ZIM stunned BAN in Sylhet with a 151-run triumph, proving their ability to pull off surprises.
For BAN, this series is crucial to bounce back from recent disappointments. Their last Test series outside Dhaka saw them suffer two defeats against SL, raising concerns about their red-ball form. Under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, the team will be eager to dominate ZIM, especially after a dismal Champions Trophy campaign last month, where they failed to register a single victory.
With a mix of experience and young talent, BAN will look to regain momentum and deliver strong performances on home soil. Meanwhile, ZIM will aim to replicate their past success in Sylhet and prove their Test cricket mettle.
Cricket fans from both nations will be keenly watching as BAN and ZIM lock horns in this exciting series. With history, form, and redemption on the line, this Test contest promises intense action and thrilling moments.
