The teams competing in the Zim Afro T10 have revealed their head coaches for the forthcoming competition, which takes place in Zimbabwe when the thrilling and captivating T10 season gets underway. Several legendary figures in cricket, including Moin Khan of Pakistan, Chaminda Vaas of Sri Lanka, and Owais Shah of England, are on the coaching staff.
Moin Khan, a former captain of Pakistan, has joined the Durban Wolves. He has not only coached the national team but also served as a selector for it. Since 2016, the former batter and wicketkeeper has also played a significant role in franchise cricket coaching, having guided the Quetta Gladiators. Since 2016, the Gladiators have advanced to three finals and once again won the Pakistan Super League under Moin Khan's leadership.
The exciting Sri Lankan all-rounder Chaminda Vaas has been added to the NYS Lagos team as their new head coach, marking another significant hire. The left-arm pacer, who was highly regarded for his skill with the ball, has served in a variety of coaching roles with numerous national teams. Since 2012, Vaas has been a coach for the national teams of Ireland, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand.
Owais Shah, who has managed the Dambulla Viiking in the Lanka Premier League and has experience working with the UAE national side, has been appointed by the Bulawayo Braves Jaguars.
James Foster, a highly skilled coach with franchise cricket expertise worldwide, has joined the Cape Town Samp Army. Foster, who started playing cricket in England, has also participated in the Bangladesh Premier League, the T20 Blast, and the Indian Premier League.
The Englishman Julian Wood, who is well-known for his work with the game's heavy hitters, has been added by the Jo'Burg Bangla Tigers. In addition to working with numerous elite players from around the world, Wood had productive IPL seasons with the Punjab Kings in 2022.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan coach Pubudu Dassanayake, who has served as head coach for the cricket teams of the USA, Canada, and Nepal, has taken over the Harare Bolts' coaching duties. Canada defeated Ireland, a test-playing full-member in the T20 World Cup 2024 pool stage, under his guidance.
"The second season of the Zim Afro T10 promises to be a special one, and with the calibre of coaches present, I am sure plenty of Zimbabwean players will also benefit from this outing," stated Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk, the founder and chairman of T Ten Global Sports. We are optimistic that the mix of coaches includes some extremely talented players, which will lead to intensely competitive games in Harare.
The Zim Afro T10's second season is slated to take place in Harare, starting on September 21 and culminating in a grand finale on September 29.
