The inaugural edition of CSA T20 league to be held in 2023. It became one of the most anticipated tournaments after IPL Franchise bought all teams in this league, It is going to be a 6-team tournament featuring 6 major cities, which includes Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Paarl. The respective grounds will be the home grounds for the respective franchises.
The owners of Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow SuperGiants, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals has owned Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Pretoria, Paarl franchises respectively.
30 marquee players have been named for the auction. Each squad must have at least 17 players out of which 5 players can be pre- signed before the auction. The 5 pre-signed players must consist of 3 international players, 1 Protea and an uncapped South African player. The remaining players will be signed through the auction. The tournament will be played in a round- robin and a playoff format.
Faf Du Plessis has signed by the CSK based Johannesburg franchise as a marquee player. His bond with the Super Kings family continues as he was part of the Chennai Super Kings from 2011-2021 until he was bought by RCB in 2022 Mega Auction. He will now play for the Johannesburg franchise in the inaugural edition. MS Dhoni might be roped in as a mentor of this team after an official clearance from the BCCI. If things go well, Faf Du Plessis will reunite with his former CSK skipper.
The Cape Town franchise owned by the Mumbai Indians who are officially known as the MI Cape Town, has announced Rasid Khan, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran as their Overseas recruit and Kagiso Rabada as capped protea. The also roped in Young sensation Dewald Brevis in uncapped sign.
The Pretoria franchise owned by Delhi Capitals and the Port Elizabeth owned by the Sunrisers Hyderabad are looking to retain their South African IPL Roster Andrich Nortje and Aiden Markram respectively. The Lucknow SuperGiants owned Durban side didn't miss on retaining Quinton De Kock. Also, the Paarl franchise owned by the Rajasthan Royals might will retain their T20 star Jos Buttler as their foriegn recruit.
