Rajasthan Royals Outclass CSK in Dominant 6-Wicket Win as Madhwal Shines in IPL 2025 Clash
Summary
Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings – Match 62, IPL 2025
Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi May 20, 2025: Rajasthan Royals delivered a clinical performance with bat and ball to outplay Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in Match 62 of the Indian Premier League 2025. Chasing a challenging 188-run target, RR made light work of the total, thanks to explosive knocks from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel, and a commanding spell of pace bowling by Akash Madhwal, who was deservingly adjudged Player of the Match.
CSK, after being sent in to bat, rode on Devon Conway’s steady fifty and late fireworks from MS Dhoni to post a competitive 187/8 in their 20 overs. However, RR’s chase was a showcase of fearless intent, led by Suryavanshi’s 57 off just 33 balls and a game-clinching cameo by Jurel.

This loss dents CSK's playoff momentum, while RR further consolidated their place in the top four with a polished and purposeful outing, underlined by powerplay dominance and well-executed bowling plans.
Chennai Super Kings' Innings – Brevis and Dhoni Fight Back
Batting first under lights, CSK had a shaky start. Tushar Deshpande and Yudhvir Singh Charak ripped through the top order, reducing CSK to 12/2 inside two overs. Conway, holding one end, played an anchoring role with a 32-ball 40 but lacked consistent support from the other end.
Young Ayush Mhatre (43 off 28) looked promising before falling to Deshpande, while a mini-collapse saw Ashwin, Jadeja, and Urvil Patel fall in quick succession. Dewald Brevis (42 off 25) and Shivam Dube (39 off 32) reignited the innings, piecing together a crucial stand to take CSK past 130.
The fireworks came from none other than MS Dhoni, whose late 16 off 7 balls lifted CSK to 187. But the real damage to CSK’s plans was inflicted by Akash Madhwal, who scalped 3 wickets including the prized ones of Dube and Dhoni at the death, finishing with figures of 4-0-29-3.
Rajasthan Royals' Commanding Chase – Suryavanshi & Jurel Steal the Show
Rajasthan’s reply began with a strong intent. Yashasvi Jaiswal was aggressive upfront with a quick 36 off 19 balls before being bowled by Kamboj. However, it was the emerging star Vaibhav Suryavanshi who stole the limelight once again.
Suryavanshi’s 57 off 33 balls, laced with 4 sixes and 4 boundaries, was the cornerstone of RR’s high-paced chase. Alongside captain Sanju Samson (41 off 31), the pair built a blistering 98-run stand. Ravichandran Ashwin briefly provided CSK hope with wickets of Samson and Suryavanshi in the 14th over, but it proved to be a temporary respite.
The final flourish came from Dhruv Jurel, who smashed an unbeaten 31 off just 12 balls, including 3 sixes, to wrap up the chase in 17.1 overs with six wickets in hand. Hetmyer provided finishing touches as RR cruised to 188/4.
