DC Appoints Kevin Pietersen as Team Mentor for IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals (DC) have made a thrilling addition to their support staff by appointing England cricket legend Kevin Pietersen as their team mentor for IPL 2025. The 44-year-old, who previously played for the franchise, returns in a leadership role to guide the squad under the JSW-GMR co-owned team. Pietersen will join an experienced support staff, which includes Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, Head Coach Hemang Badani, Assistant Coach Matthew Mott, and Bowling Coach Munaf Patel.

Welcoming Pietersen back into the DC setup, Chairman & Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi expressed his excitement: “We are delighted to welcome KP as our team mentor. He has been a Delhi boy, having played for us earlier, and it's fantastic to have him back in this new role. His experience, tactical insights, and passion for the franchise will be invaluable for our players.”

DC Co-owner Parth Jindal echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Pietersen’s impact on modern-day cricket: “KP was one of the finest batters of his generation. His inclusion in our support staff will strengthen our team and help us achieve our objectives. We look forward to seeing him mentor our players.”

Pietersen’s Exciting Return to DC

Marking his return to DC after more than a decade, Pietersen expressed his enthusiasm about stepping into this new role: “I have amazing memories of playing for Delhi in the IPL and have remained passionate about the team even as a broadcaster. Reconnecting with my former teammate Venu (Venugopal Rao) in a leadership capacity is truly exciting. When this opportunity came up, it was an easy YES for me.”

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I share a great relationship with the DC owners and fans, and I am looking forward to working closely with the squad. My goal is to contribute as much as I can and help the team clinch the ultimate prize.”

Pietersen’s Stint in the IPL and International Career

Pietersen, a veteran of 200 T20s with 5,695 runs, featured in 36 IPL matches, scoring 1,001 runs across his stints with DC (formerly Delhi Daredevils), RCB, SRH, and Pune. The South African-born cricketer captained England between 2008-2009 and played a crucial role in their success. He was instrumental in England’s 2010 ICC T20 World Cup victory, earning the Player of the Series award for his exceptional performances.

His remarkable international career saw him amass 8,181 runs in 104 Test matches and 4,440 runs in 136 ODIs, establishing himself as one of England’s greatest cricketers.

DC Strengthens Support Staff with Matthew Mott

DC has been making strong additions off the field as well. Earlier this week, the franchise announced the appointment of renowned coach Matthew Mott as Assistant Coach. Mott, who led England’s men’s team to victory in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, previously had a highly successful tenure coaching Australia’s women’s team. Under his leadership, Australia won two T20 World Cups, an ODI World Cup, four Ashes series, and set a record-breaking 26-match winning streak in ODIs.

With Pietersen and Mott onboard, DC has bolstered its leadership team ahead of IPL 2025. As the season approaches, fans eagerly anticipate how this new combination will steer the team toward championship glory.
