Delhi Capitals Aim for a Strong Comeback Against Gujarat Giants
Bengaluru, 24 February 2025 – The Delhi Capitals (DC) are gearing up for a crucial encounter against Gujarat Giants (GG) in their fifth match of WPL 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday. After a setback against UP Warrioz (UPW) in their previous game, DC is eager to return to winning ways and strengthen its position in the points table.
Reflecting on the last match, DC Head Coach Jonathan Batty acknowledged the positives and areas for improvement. "We had a good review of the previous game. I thought we bowled really well for the first 16-17 overs but conceded some extras towards the end. This is something we need to tighten up," Batty said.
Currently sitting in third place with two wins and two losses, DC remains confident about their overall performance. Batty emphasized that the team has played high-quality cricket but needs to focus on closing out games. "We have been consistent with our bowling lengths, and our team has been playing some really good cricket. It's just about sealing those crucial moments in the game," he added.
DC Ready for the Challenge Against GG
With a strong mix of international and domestic talent, GG poses a formidable challenge. Batty acknowledged the depth in their squad, particularly their spin-heavy bowling attack. "All teams in WPL 2025 are competitive, and GG is no exception. They have quality international and domestic players, and their bowling lineup leans more towards spin," he explained.
Despite the threat GG brings, DC remains focused on their own strengths rather than adjusting too much for the opposition. "They have dangerous batters, but we will stick to our plans and play to our strengths," Batty concluded.
DC’s Journey in WPL and IPL
The Delhi Capitals franchise has been a major force in Indian cricket, competing in both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and WPL. Originally established as Delhi Daredevils in 2008, the team rebranded as DC in 2019. Since then, they have consistently been among the top contenders, reaching their first-ever IPL final in 2020.
In the WPL, DC has been equally impressive, finishing as runners-up in both the inaugural and second editions of the tournament. The team, co-owned by the GMR Group and JSW Group, continues to push for its maiden WPL title.
As they prepare for their clash against GG, the DC camp is determined to showcase their resilience and skill, ensuring they remain in the hunt for the WPL 2025 trophy.
Fans can expect an intense contest as DC looks to capitalize on their strengths and move up the standings. With their mix of experience and young talent, they remain one of the top teams to watch in WPL 2025.
