Batty & Lanning Confident Ahead of Season Opener

Vadodara, 11 February 2025 – Delhi Capitals (DC) are all set to kick off their WPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) on February 15 in Vadodara. With back-to-back final appearances in the first two seasons, DC is determined to go one step further this year. Captain Meg Lanning and Head Coach Jonathan Batty shared their thoughts on the team’s preparations and ambitions ahead of the tournament.

Focused & Determined: DC’s Approach for WPL 2025

Lanning reflected on DC’s past performances and emphasized the need for small improvements to clinch the trophy.

“We have had two good seasons but, unfortunately, haven’t won the title yet. The key is to keep doing what we have been doing while making small tweaks that can make the difference. We have built a powerful squad and are ready to take the next step.”

 Batty highlighted the improvement in domestic players, praising their hard work and growth through off-season training camps.

 “The last two tournaments were fantastic for us. Our regular training camps have helped players improve significantly. It’s exciting to see how well they’ve developed.”

WPL’s Impact on Women’s Cricket

 Lanning spoke about how the WPL has transformed women’s cricket by giving players global exposure.

“The league has had a massive impact on both international and domestic players. The experience of playing in high-pressure matches has helped them improve. It’s been great to see their development.”

 Batty was particularly impressed with the young Indian players, especially Niki Prasad, and their ability to compete with experienced stars.

 “The young Indian players are stepping up and challenging the experienced players. It’s fantastic to see them bring so much energy and confidence into the squad.”

Delhi Capitals’ Pre-Season Preparations

DC’s pre-season camp in Pune included multiple practice games, helping players get into match rhythm.

“The practice games were crucial for the team to settle in and find their T20 rhythm. Now, it’s just about fine-tuning ahead of the first match,” Lanning said.
