DC Secure Thrilling Win Over UPW as Lanning & Sutherland Shine

Delhi Capitals Wrap Up Vadodara Leg With a Commanding Victory

The Delhi Capitals Women (DCW) ended their Vadodara leg of WPL 2025 on a high note, clinching a seven-wicket win over UP Warriorz (UPW) in a thrilling encounter. Led by Meg Lanning, DC displayed an all-round performance, bouncing back strongly after their previous defeat to RCBW. With this win, DC now head into the next phase of the tournament with two wins in three matches.

After opting to bowl first, DC restricted UPW to 166/7 in their 20 overs. Annabel Sutherland was the star with the ball, picking up 2/26 in four overs, while her crucial unbeaten 41 off 35 balls later played a vital role in sealing the chase. Lanning led from the front, smashing a match-winning 69 off 49 balls, ensuring DCW’s comfortable chase of 167 in 19.5 overs.

Reflecting on the win, Lanning expressed her satisfaction, stating,
"It was nice to bounce back as a team. We probably didn't put our best effort out against RCB, but today, we made sure to step up. Winning two close matches shows we can hold our composure and get over the line when it matters."

She also heaped praise on Sutherland, acknowledging her match-winning contributions with both bat and ball. “Annabel was outstanding with the ball early on when we were under pressure. Later, she held her nerves with the bat and played a crucial role. Her stability at one end allowed Marizanne Kapp to play freely, which was key for us."

Lanning also credited Shafali Verma for setting the tone with an explosive start. The Indian opener smashed 26 off 16 balls, forming a 65-run opening stand in just 6.5 overs with Lanning. “Shafali knows only one way to play – aggressive cricket. Her quick starts help us stay ahead of the run rate early on, reducing the pressure on the middle and lower order," Lanning added.

With momentum on their side, DC now shift to Bengaluru, where they will face UPW again on Saturday.
