DC vs LSG Highlights | IPL 2025 Thriller: Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam Script a Stunning One-Wicket Win for Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals Clinch Last-Ball Thriller Against LSG in One of IPL 2025’s Most Dramatic Finishes

In a match that had just about everything – drama, comebacks, collapses, and young heroes – Delhi Capitals pulled off a sensational one-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in the fourth match of IPL 2025 at Visakhapatnam. Chasing a daunting 210, Delhi found themselves in deep trouble multiple times but emerged victorious with just three balls to spare, thanks to stunning knocks from debutant Vipraj Nigam and a cold-blooded finish by Ashutosh Sharma.

This was one of those games that swung wildly, keeping fans on edge throughout. At one stage, with half the Delhi side back in the hut for just 65 and the chase derailing fast, LSG looked poised to walk away with the points. But cricket, as always, had other plans.

LSG Post a Power-Packed 209, But It Proves Just Short

After being put in to bat by Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants posted a commanding 209 for 8 in their 20 overs. Aiden Markram gave them a solid start with a quickfire 15 before falling to a clever delivery by Vipraj Nigam, who was making his IPL debut. But it was Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran who stole the show during the middle overs.

Marsh hammered a brutal 72 off just 36 balls, while Pooran launched a counter-attack with a rapid 75 off 30, combining power with placement in a masterclass of T20 hitting. Their partnership put DC under pressure, forcing Axar Patel and his bowlers to recalibrate constantly. Despite a few hiccups in the latter half of the innings, David Miller’s unbeaten 27 ensured LSG crossed the 200-mark.

Mitchell Starc stood out with the ball for Delhi, picking up three wickets and showing why he remains a lethal force in T20s. Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two, breaking crucial partnerships just when LSG looked set for an even bigger total. Vipraj Nigam also picked up a wicket and showed glimpses of his potential.

Delhi’s Chase Starts in Chaos

Delhi’s response to the chase couldn’t have been worse. Within the first five balls, they were two wickets down – Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel gone with just two runs on the board. By the time they reached 7, Sameer Rizvi had also departed. At 7 for 3, LSG were already celebrating.

Faf du Plessis, the experienced campaigner, tried to steady the ship with a composed 29 but fell just as he looked set. Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs chipped in with valuable runs, but the required rate kept climbing. Stubbs’ 34 off 22 looked promising but wasn’t enough to put DC in command.

Enter Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh Sharma – The Unexpected Heroes

With Tristan Stubbs back in the pavilion at 113 and the team still needing nearly 100 runs with only four wickets in hand, the game seemed all but over. But what followed next was an IPL classic in the making.

Vipraj Nigam, playing his first IPL game, walked in and immediately changed the tone. Showing no signs of pressure, he launched into the LSG bowlers with clean, confident hitting. His 39 off 15 balls, featuring a flurry of boundaries and sixes, brought Delhi roaring back into the contest.

Ashutosh Sharma, at the other end, matched his intensity. Calm and calculating, he held his nerve even as wickets kept falling around him. When Kuldeep Yadav was run out in the 19th over, DC were nine down, needing 18 off 9 balls. Every ball from that point was pure tension.

Final Over Drama and a Match-Winning Six

Needing six runs off the final over with just one wicket in hand, DC faced Shahbaz Ahmed, who hadn’t bowled all innings until then. On the first delivery, Shahbaz spun one past Mohit Sharma, drawing a huge LBW shout. The review showed the ball missing off stump, and Mohit narrowly survived. The next ball saw a single, putting Ashutosh on strike.

And then, the moment. With five needed off four, Shahbaz tossed one up, and Ashutosh Sharma launched it into the night sky. The ball sailed over long-on and into the stands, sealing an incredible win for Delhi Capitals. Pandemonium followed as teammates rushed onto the field. From the jaws of defeat, DC had snatched a victory that will be remembered all season.

Pant’s Return Turns Sour

The match was also significant for Rishabh Pant, who was returning to action after a long injury layoff, but the script didn’t go his way. With the bat, Pant lasted just six balls without scoring. Behind the stumps, he missed a tough stumping chance in the final over – a miss that proved costly. The usually electric Pant had an off night, one he'll want to forget quickly.

What This Win Means for Delhi

For Delhi Capitals, this victory isn’t just about two points – it's about belief. Coming back from 65 for 5 and later 192 for 9 while chasing 210 shows serious grit and character. Head coach Hemang Badani and mentor Kevin Pietersen will be thrilled by the fearless attitude shown by their young guns.

Ashutosh Sharma’s composure and Vipraj Nigam’s fearless debut have given Delhi new heroes. With experienced heads like Starc and Faf around, these youngsters have the perfect environment to thrive in.

LSG Let It Slip – A Lesson in Finishing

On the flip side, Lucknow Super Giants will look back with regret. They had the game in the bag more than once – at the top of the Delhi innings, in the middle overs, and even in the final over with a spinner bowling and only one wicket to get. But poor fielding, a few loose overs, and a lack of finishing instinct cost them dearly. For coach Justin Langer and skipper Pant, it’s a match full of lessons.

A Game for the Ages

This match had it all – a high total, early collapses, a stunning comeback, debut brilliance, and a six to finish it. It’s only match four of IPL 2025, but already we’ve got a contender for Game of the Season.

As the tournament continues, Delhi Capitals walk away with momentum, confidence, and two future stars in the making. Lucknow, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly. One thing is certain – no one will be taking Delhi lightly after this
