Delhi Capitals Dominate Sunrisers with Clinical Win in Vizag
Delhi Capitals registered their second win of IPL 2025 with a commanding 7-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam. Mitchell Starc's fiery spell dismantled SRH’s top order as they collapsed for 163 in 18.4 overs. Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel powered the chase with explosive half-centuries. Delhi chased the total down in just 16 overs, highlighting their superior all-round show.
Scorecard
SRH 163 all out (18.4 overs) – Aniket Verma 74, Klaasen 32; Starc 4/35, Kuldeep 3/22
DC 166/3 (16 overs) – Faf du Plessis 50, Porel 34*; Zeeshan Ansari 3/42
Result: Delhi Capitals won by 7 wickets
The high-octane contest between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 saw the visitors completely outplayed as Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad turned into a one-sided affair in Visakhapatnam. Delhi showcased their depth in both departments, handing Sunrisers their second consecutive loss, while continuing their own surge with back-to-back wins.
This 10th match of the season carried the weight of form and momentum DC looking to build on their gritty win over LSG, and SRH hoping to bounce back after a disappointing defeat. However, it was Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad that proved to be a dominant display by the Capitals, who not only bowled out SRH inside 19 overs but chased down the target with 24 balls to spare.
Starc Sizzles, Kuldeep Turns Up the Heat
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, SRH were rattled early by a sensational Mitchell Starc spell. The left-arm quick removed Ishan Kishan, Nitish Reddy, and Travis Head in a span of 11 balls, leaving Sunrisers reeling at 37/4 in the fifth over. Only Aniket Verma stood tall with a counterattacking 74 off 41 balls, hitting four sixes and keeping the innings from total collapse.
Kuldeep Yadav’s spell added to the damage, removing Verma, Cummins, and Abhinav Manohar to cap a middle-order meltdown. Mohit Sharma chipped in with a key dismissal of Klaasen, who was threatening with a fiery 32 off 19. SRH’s innings ended at 163, a total that looked sub-par given the form and firepower of the Delhi Capitals’ top order.
Du Plessis, Porel Flatten SRH
Chasing 164 on a slightly sticky Vizag surface, DC came out with intent. Faf du Plessis, playing his first fluent knock of the season, lit up the powerplay with a blistering 50 off just 27 balls. He added 81 for the opening stand with Jake Fraser-McGurk, who continued to dazzle with 38 off 32, mixing power and placement with equal ease.
Zeeshan Ansari gave Sunrisers some hope with three quick wickets, dismissing both openers and KL Rahul. But Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs slammed the door shut with a quick and unbeaten 51-run partnership off just 27 balls. Porel remained not out on 34 off 18, sealing the win in style in the 16th over.
Rahul’s Return and Team Balance
KL Rahul’s return to the Delhi Capitals line-up added further experience, but he couldn’t convert his start. Still, his presence brings composure and balance to a middle order that looks packed with intent. Stubbs and Porel have stepped up as X-factors in the middle overs, and with Axar Patel, Starc, and Kuldeep providing solid backup, Delhi suddenly appear one of the most balanced teams this season.
On the bowling front, Mitchell Starc was unplayable with figures of 4 for 35, while Kuldeep’s 3 for 22 tightened the noose in the middle overs. Mohit Sharma’s subtle variations complemented the two well, proving how Delhi’s bowling attack has matured since last season.
SRH's Concerns Mount
The Sunrisers Hyderabad unit, on the other hand, finds itself with more questions than answers. Their top order folded under pressure again, and despite Aniket Verma’s standout performance, the lack of partnerships hurt their chances. Their bowling unit struggled to contain the Capitals batters, and while Zeeshan Ansari picked three wickets, the rest of the bowlers leaked runs at over 10 per over.
SRH's form dip poses selection headaches. Questions linger over Ishan Kishan's role, Cummins' underwhelming all-round display, and whether Adam Zampa should be brought into the XI for better middle-over control. Despite a power-packed line-up on paper, SRH have failed to gel as a unit in IPL 2025.
What’s Next
This win boosts Delhi’s net run rate and confidence heading into a packed week. Their core looks settled, and if the top order continues to fire, they will be one of the most feared sides going forward.
SRH, meanwhile, need to regroup quickly. With two losses in three games, they’ll want a reset before the next fixture. Their senior players Kishan, Cummins, Klaasen need to deliver consistently if the franchise hopes to remain in contention.
