Delhi Capitals Women Cruise to a 9-Wicket Victory Over RCB Women

Delhi Capitals Women put up a dominating performance to thrash Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women by 9 wickets in the 14th match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The Capitals, led by a scintillating knock from Shafali Verma, made light work of a 148-run target after their bowlers had earlier put the brakes on RCBW’s batting lineup.

RCB Women Struggle to Build Momentum with the Bat

Batting first after losing the toss, RCB Women got off to a shaky start. Captain Smriti Mandhana failed to provide the strong start her team needed, falling for just 8 runs in the second over to Shikha Pandey. Danielle Wyatt-Hodge followed soon after, scoring 21 off 18 balls but failing to capitalize on a promising start.

Ellyse Perry was the lone warrior for RCBW, playing a well-paced unbeaten 60 off 47 deliveries. Her knock included three boundaries and two sixes, keeping RCB’s innings afloat. However, she found little support from the middle order, as Raghvi Bist (33 off 32) and Richa Ghosh (5 off 3) fell cheaply. Kanika Ahuja’s dismissal for just 2 further dented RCBW’s hopes of putting up a competitive total. Georgia Wareham chipped in with 12* at the end, but 147/5 in 20 overs seemed under par on a batting-friendly track.

Shikha Pandey and Nallapureddy Charani were the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Capitals Women, taking two wickets each and maintaining control over the run flow. Marizanne Kapp also contributed with a crucial breakthrough.

Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen Make the Chase Look Easy

Delhi Capitals Women began their chase on a confident note despite losing captain Meg Lanning early for 2. Renuka Singh provided RCBW with a breakthrough in the third over, but that was the only success they found. From then on, it was all about Shafali Verma’s masterclass with the bat.

The young opener played an explosive knock, smashing 80* off just 43 balls, hitting 8 fours and 4 sixes. She dominated the RCBW bowlers, using her aggressive stroke play to nullify any pressure. Her fearless batting ensured that Delhi Capitals Women were never behind in the chase.

Jess Jonassen complemented Verma beautifully, playing an attacking 61* off 39 balls. The duo stitched an unbeaten 146-run stand, dismantling the RCBW bowling attack with ease. Jonassen finished the match in style with a boundary, as Delhi Capitals Women chased down the target in just 15.3 overs.

RCBW’s Bowling Unit Fails to Deliver

RCB Women’s bowlers had no answer to the brilliance of Verma and Jonassen. Renuka Singh was the only wicket-taker, dismissing Lanning for 2. However, the rest of the attack struggled to contain the scoring rate. Kim Garth, Ellyse Perry, and Georgia Wareham failed to make an impact, allowing Delhi to cruise to victory.

Shafali Verma Shines as Delhi Capitals Women Dominate

Shafali Verma’s fearless innings was the highlight of the match, earning her well-deserved praise. Her ability to take on the bowlers from the start put RCBW under immense pressure. Jess Jonassen provided the perfect supporting role, ensuring Delhi Capitals Women completed the chase comfortably.

What Lies Ahead for Both Teams

With this massive win, Delhi Capitals Women continue to strengthen their position in the WPL 2025 standings. Their well-balanced squad and aggressive approach make them one of the top contenders for the title. RCB Women, on the other hand, need to regroup and address their inconsistency, especially in the bowling department.

As the tournament progresses, the race for the playoffs heats up. Delhi Capitals Women will look to maintain their winning momentum, while RCB Women must find a way to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
