The Women’s Premier League 2025 witnessed an electrifying contest between DCW and UPW at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara. After winning the toss, DCW elected to bowl first, aiming to restrict UPW to a manageable total. The decision proved effective as UPW managed 166/7 in 20 overs.

Batting first, UPW saw a mixed performance. Kiran Navgire played an aggressive knock, scoring 51 off 27 balls, but her dismissal led to a mini-collapse. Vrinda Dinesh contributed 16, while skipper Deepti Sharma scored just 7. Shweta Sehrawat anchored the innings with 37 off 33, but wickets at regular intervals hampered UPW’s momentum. The late surge came from Chinelle Henry, who smashed an unbeaten 33 off 15, helping UPW reach 166/7.

DCW’s bowlers kept things tight, with Annabel Sutherland picking up 2 wickets for 26 runs. Jonassen and Minnu Mani took crucial wickets, while Arundhati Reddy and Marizanne Kapp also contributed effectively.

Chasing 167, DCW got off to a strong start. Shafali Verma played a quickfire 26, setting the platform for the middle order. Meg Lanning was the star of the innings, scoring a brilliant 69 off 49 balls. Though Jemimah Rodrigues fell for a duck, Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp ensured a steady finish, scoring 41* and 29* respectively. The chase was completed in 19.5 overs, sealing a 7-wicket victory for DCW.

UPW’s bowlers struggled to break partnerships, with Deepti Sharma, Grace Harris, and Sophie Ecclestone taking one wicket each. However, they failed to contain the run flow, allowing DCW to cruise to victory.

With this win, DCW strengthened their position in WPL 2025, while UPW will need to regroup and bounce back in their next fixture.
