The Delhi Capitals, which are co-owned by JSW and GMR, announced the hiring of their new coaching staff ahead of this year's IPL big auction. Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao, two former Indian cricket players, have joined the team as Head Coach and Director of Cricket, respectively.
The Delhi Capitals' chairman and co-owner, Mr. Kiran Kumar Grandhi, stated: "We are thrilled to have Hemang and Venu join us. Both have long been essential members of our team, and we are thrilled to have them join us in a new capacity. We are certain that their coaching experience will be crucial in assisting us in accomplishing our goals and promoting success for the Delhi Capitals, given their shown track record.
"I have a long history with the franchise, and I am grateful for the confidence our owners have shown in me by giving me this position," Rao said. "Ahead of a new IPL cycle, I am looking forward to this new challenge."
"It's an absolute honor to be joining Delhi Capitals, and I'm deeply grateful to our owners for trusting me with the job," Badani said in a statement marking the occasion. My job, along with the rest of our coaching team, is cut out with the next mega auction. I am eager to get going.
Hemang and Venu are both members of the Capitals family and are familiar with our concept, said DC CEO Sunil Gupta, who welcomed the new coaching staff. With their help, we want to do great things for the Delhi Capitals.
Venugopal Rao, who spent three IPL seasons with the Delhi Daredevils (2011–13), was a member of the 2009 IPL winning team with Deccan Chargers, and played 16 One-Day Internationals for India. As a mentor in the first season and Director of Cricket in the following, he has also been a member of the Dubai Capitals family.
Badani brings with him an impressive coaching profile across leagues, having played 40 ODIs and four Test matches for India. He served as a fielding coach and a batting coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL from 2021 to 2023. Additionally, he led the Jaffna Kings team to two straight Lankan Premier League championships. In the first SA20, Badani was also the batting coach for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who won the championship. The 47-year-old served as the head coach of the Dubai Capitals team, who advanced to the ILT20 final this year.

One of the original five teams to play in the Women's Premier League was the Delhi Capitals in 2023. In both of the tournament's previous iterations, the team has advanced to the final.
