Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Jake Fraser-McGurk Praises Axar Patel

Jake Fraser-McGurk Praises Axar Patel's Leadership Ahead of RCB Clash

As Delhi Capitals prepare for a critical encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, young Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk has opened up about his form, the unique leadership style of Axar Patel, and the atmosphere within the Delhi Capitals IPL 2025 camp.

Staying Level Amid Highs and Lows

Fraser-McGurk, who has been a promising presence at the top for Delhi Capitals, admitted that he has been working hard to regain consistency after a few lean outings. "I'd love to have some more runs next to my name, but that's the way cricket is sometimes. You go through highs and lows and I think the IPL has shown it all for me personally," he said.

The Australian emphasized the importance of maintaining an even keel through the ups and downs, a mindset that he believes is vital not just for personal success but for team contribution. "My role as a batter is to get the team off to a nice start but it doesn't mean I have to try and hit every ball for six. I'm working really hard with my coaches and everyone around me to make sure I can contribute," Fraser-McGurk added.

Axar Patel's Captaincy Creates a Relaxed Environment

One of the standout aspects of Delhi Capitals' 2025 campaign has been the calm leadership of Axar Patel IPL 2025. Fraser-McGurk was effusive in his praise for Axar, describing him not just as a captain but as a supportive figure who treats players like friends.

"Axar is just one of those players that leads everyone and everyone follows him. He's an amazing talent and the way he plays just makes everyone really proud to be at Delhi Capitals," Fraser-McGurk said. He went on to explain how Axar’s relaxed demeanor under pressure helps the entire team stay composed, adding, "It feels like you're talking to one of your best friends instead of the captain."

This atmosphere of mutual respect and positivity has been one of the key ingredients behind Delhi Capitals' relatively successful season so far. With 12 points in nine matches, they remain in strong contention for a playoff spot.

Home Comforts and Challenging Pitches

Returning to the Arun Jaitley Stadium after a couple of away fixtures, Delhi Capitals IPL 2025 are eager to strengthen their home advantage. Fraser-McGurk acknowledged the changing nature of the pitches this season compared to 2024.

"Last year it was really flat and nice and didn't really bounce that much. This year it's a little bit harder to get used to, and it might take some more time for batters to get into their innings," he observed. The opener also pointed out that spin has played a bigger role this season in Delhi, something the team has adapted to well.

The adaptability shown by Delhi Capitals in adjusting to slower wickets like those encountered in Vizag and Chennai has given them confidence heading into another crucial home fixture.

Hemang Badani’s Influence on Team Culture

Another stabilizing factor for Delhi Capitals has been the presence of head coach Hemang Badani. Fraser-McGurk, who previously worked with Badani at Dubai Capitals, spoke warmly about his coaching style.

"He's an awesome coach. The coaching staff around him and even the players, I go to them and speak to them a lot. It's a very open environment," said the young Australian. The culture fostered by Badani and his team has created an atmosphere where players feel comfortable seeking advice and sharing ideas, crucial for maintaining morale in a high-pressure tournament.

Focus on RCB Challenge

With Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the horizon, Fraser-McGurk and his teammates are keen to complete the season double over RCB, having already beaten them earlier. A win would not only solidify DC's position in the playoff race but also give the team vital momentum heading into the final stretch of the league phase.

The stakes are high, but Delhi Capitals appear to be a team at ease with their processes and leadership thanks in no small part to the positive influence of Axar Patel and the supportive ecosystem created by Hemang Badani.

As Fraser-McGurk highlighted, staying level-headed through highs and lows is key. With a captain who feels like a best friend and a coaching team that fosters growth, Delhi Capitals will be confident of bouncing back strongly when they take the field against RCB.
