East Delhi Riders edge past South Delhi Superstarz by 11 runs in inaugural Adani Womens Delhi Premier League T20 game

Pratika Rawals 41 off 38 and a disciplined bowling performance led East Delhi Riders Women to an 11 run win over South Delhi Superstarz Women

East Delhi Riders edge past South Delhi Superstarz by 11 runs in inaugural Adani Womens Delhi Premier League T20 game

At the first-ever Adani Women's Delhi Premier League T20 match, East Delhi Riders defeat South Delhi Superstarz by 11 runs.

New Delhi, September 02, 2024: In the opening game of the first-ever Adani Women's Delhi Premier League T20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday, East Delhi Riders Women defeated South Delhi Superstarz Women by an 11-run margin thanks to Pratika Rawal's 41 off 38 and a disciplined bowling display.

With a 50-run partnership between Pratika Rawal and Saachi, South East Delhi Riders Women were able to reach 114/8 in the 20 overs that they were given. The South Delhi Superstarz were subsequently restricted to 103/6 in their 20 overs by Madhu and Saachi, who each claimed two wickets, winning the match by an 11-run margin. 

Nishika Singh (6 off 5) lost her wicket in the second over, putting South Delhi Superstarz Women behind early in their chase of the 115-run mark. By the end of the powerplay, South Delhi Superstarz Women could only muster 29 runs.

After building a partnership of 30 runs between Tanisha Singh (13 off 21) and Shweta Sehrawat (25 off 30), Saachi dismissed both of them in rapid succession. After 13 overs, South Delhi Superstarz Women were reduced to 61/4, with Nidhi Mahto (1 off 5) coming next. 

With her timely boundaries, Riya Soni showed urgency by reducing the equation to 31 needed in 18 balls, while Ekta Bhadana (5 off 10) fell cheaply in the 17th over.

With just four runs conceded in the final over, Kashish Sethi gave South Delhi Superstarz all they needed to win with two runs remaining in the last over. In the final over, Madhu then claimed the wicket of Soni (32 off 29), guaranteeing that East Delhi Riders would begin their season with a decisive victory. 

The East Delhi Riders Women chose to bat first earlier in the day. Their innings also started slowly, as captain Priya Punia was removed in the fifth over despite hitting 12 off 14 balls. After that, Rawal, her partner, teamed up with Saachi to score 50 runs off of 49 balls, leading the East Delhi Riders Women to 79/1 after 13 overs.

In the fourteenth over, Tanisha Singh struck twice, getting rid of Saachi (20 off 28) and Pragya Rawat (0 off 2). After 15 overs, Rawal was next, and the East Delhi Riders Women were down at 80/4. 

East Delhi Riders Women were limited to 114/8 by South Delhi Superstarz in their 20 overs as they proceeded to grab decisive wickets. For the South Delhi Superstarz, Anshu and Tanisha Singh both got two wickets, while Medhavi Bidhuri grabbed three.
