James Anderson struck on the very first ball of day 2 by getting the wicket of the Australian skipper Pat Cummins. Mitchell Starc contributed with 36 valuable runs towards the end as Australia were all out for a score of 317. Chris Woakes starred with the ball picking up a 5-wicket haul.
As far as England’s innings was concerned, Mitchell Starc got rid of Ben Duckett in the 3rd over of the innings. It was a great partnership for the second wicket as Moeen Ali and Zak Crawley got 121 runs off just 152 balls. They had played a bold and aggressive brand of cricket. There was no stopping Zak Crawley as he went on to get 189 runs off just 182 balls. Moeen Ali got his first test fifty in nearly 4 years.
He was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for a well-made 54. Joe Root and Zak Crawley went on to make a 206-run partnership with Zak Crawley playing the role of the aggressor. He played at a very good strike rate of 103.84. Joe Root played really well for 95 balls- 84. Finally, it looks like Bazball has started to work for England at some point in this series. Australia looked to get back into the game by picking up the wickets of both the set batsmen. It was upon Harry Brook and skipper Ben Stokes to rebuild the innings.
They were successful in nearly playing the final 11 overs of the day. They stood well, getting a partnership off 33 runs and remaining not out at the end of the day’s play. England completed day 2 at 384/4 with a lead of 67 runs and have a slight upper hand as far as the end of the 2nd day is concerned. England have played with a run rate of 5.33 which would give them confidence on their Bazball approach.
