The England Women A squads for their highly anticipated tour of Australia have been officially announced. The team, led by England Women A Head Coach and Performance Batting Coach Jon Lewis, will compete in a multi-format series consisting of three T20s, three 50-over matches, and a four-day red-ball fixture against Australia A.
This tour offers an excellent opportunity for emerging talents to gain valuable international experience, with several players hoping to push for senior England selection. Among the key names included across all three formats are Paige Scholfield and Hollie Armitage, who will play crucial roles throughout the series.
A Vital Opportunity for Rising Stars
England Women A’s tour of Australia presents a major opportunity for young and developing players to prove themselves against high-quality opposition. Many of the selected players have been part of England’s development programs and recently participated in a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi to refine their skills before heading to Australia.
Coach Jon Lewis emphasized the significance of the tour, stating, “We are looking forward to testing ourselves against a national side with great depth. There has been some good work done by the players, both in England and those who have played overseas this winter. This tour provides a fantastic opportunity for players to push for senior selection through strong performances.”
Paige Scholfield's return to international cricket is particularly noteworthy. After missing England Women’s tour to South Africa in November 2024 due to injury, she has now earned a spot in all three squads. She will be joined by England Women Pace Programme players Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Emma Jones, and Alexa Stonehouse, all of whom have impressed in recent domestic and international fixtures.
Alice Capsey and Danielle Gibson, both of whom were part of the England Women’s Ashes squad earlier this year, will also be key members of the 50-over and four-day squads. Their experience playing in high-pressure situations will be invaluable as England A take on a strong Australia A side.
Squad Highlights and Key Selections
England’s squads feature a blend of experience and emerging talent, with players such as Freya Kemp, Bess Heath, and Issy Wong bringing dynamism to the setup. Capsey and Gibson, fresh off their stint in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), will also add depth to the squad.
Jonathan Finch, Director of England Women’s Cricket, highlighted the importance of the series, saying, “We have a good mix of experience across the three squads, with all players striving to perform and push for selection into the senior team. A tour to Australia is what so many young cricketers dream of, and we wish them well.”
