French batter Gustav McKeon breaks T20I world record with With a remarkable century

On Monday, French batter Gustav McKeon has become the youngest men's cricketer to record a T20I century. During their T20 World Cup 2024 Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier tournament encounter in Vantaa, he completed this milestone against Switzerland. McKeon scored 109 runs in 61 balls at the age of 18 years and 280 days, hitting five fours and nine sixes. He beat Afghanistan batsman Hazratullah Zazai's record of 162* off 62 balls against Ireland in 2019 at the age of 20 years and 337 days.

This blistering inning followed after a 76-run inning versus the Czech Republic. McKeon leads the tournament in runs with 185 at an average of 92.50.

After his magnificent century, France was defeated by Switzerland, who chased down the target of 158, with captain Faheem Nazir guiding the chase with 67 off 46 balls. Ali Nayyer hammered twelve runs off the final three balls, including a four at the final delivery, to propel his team to victory.
