GG Unveil Jersey for WPL 2025, Set for Historic Home Debut in Vadodara
As the third season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 approaches, Gujarat Giants (GG) are preparing for a historic milestone playing in front of their home crowd for the first time. The Adani Sportsline-owned franchise held a press event in Ahmedabad, unveiling their new WPL 2025 jersey and sharing insights into their goals for the upcoming season.
The much-anticipated tournament, which kicks off on February 14, will see GG face defending champions RCB in the WPL 2025 opener at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. With matches scheduled across multiple venues, including Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai, the season promises to be bigger than ever.
GG’s Title Ambitions: "We’re Here to Compete"
Head Coach Michael Klinger outlined the team’s ambitions, making it clear that GG have their sights set on the WPL trophy.
“We’re looking forward to playing strong cricket and hopefully qualifying for the finals. We’re not shying away from it—that’s our aim this season,” Klinger stated.
The team’s off-season preparations have been key, with six GG players gaining valuable experience in top-tier domestic and international cricket. Klinger believes this exposure will strengthen the squad and give them a competitive edge heading into the tournament.
“The experience our players have gained since the last WPL season will hold us in good stead,” he added.
Harleen Deol Returns, Eyes Impactful Season
For Indian all-rounder Harleen Deol, WPL 2025 is extra special. After missing the previous season due to injury, she is eager to make an impact, particularly in Vadodara, where she has fond memories of her maiden century.
“I missed the last season due to injury, so I’m even more eager to play this edition. Vadodara is special to me, but in cricket, you start from zero every day,” Deol remarked.
Her return adds depth to GG’s middle order, and fans will be eager to see how she performs in the team’s home debut.
Shabnam Shakil: WPL Has Been a Game-Changer
Teenage sensation Shabnam Shakil, fresh off her second consecutive U19 World Cup triumph, reflected on how playing for GG in the WPL has shaped her career.
“WPL has been a great platform for my growth as a cricketer. Playing alongside experienced international players helped me gain confidence and improve my game,” she shared.
Shakil’s impressive performances in WPL Season 2, where she played four matches, showcased her talent, and she will be a crucial part of GG’s bowling attack this season.
A Historic First: GG to Play in Front of Home Crowd
For Adani Sportsline’s Chief Business Officer, Sanjay Adesara, the excitement lies in GG finally playing in front of their home crowd.
“This is a big moment for Gujarat Giants. Our goal is to deliver great cricket for fans not just in Gujarat but across the world. Playing in front of our home crowd for the first time is a huge moment,” he said.
The team is ready to showcase their best cricket and give fans an unforgettable experience as they take the field at Vadodara.
