Jos Buttler's Masterclass Powers Gujarat Titans to Commanding Win Over Delhi Capitals
Gujarat Titans cruised to a clinical 7-wicket win over Delhi Capitals, chasing down 204 in 19.2 overs in Ahmedabad.
Jos Buttler was the standout performer with a dazzling unbeaten 97 off 54 balls, anchoring GT’s successful chase.
Captain Shubman Gill (75 off 50) and Sudharsan (36 off 21) provided a solid platform at the top.
Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball for GT, picking up 4 wickets, including key top-order dismissals.
Delhi’s 203/8, despite Ashutosh Sharma’s late fireworks (37 off 19), wasn’t enough to stop the in-form Titans.

Gujarat Titans’ Chase Anchored by Buttler and Gill
Coming off the back of solid form, GT’s top three delivered once again. Skipper Shubman Gill, known for his fluent starts, kicked off the chase with a crisp 75 off just 54 balls. His aggressive intent allowed the Titans to maintain a healthy scoring rate during the powerplay. However, a brilliant direct hit from Karun Nair ended Gill’s knock in the second over, pushing GT into a momentary wobble at 14 for 1.
That didn’t deter Jos Buttler, who came out determined to take control. Alongside Sai Sudharsan (36 off 21), Buttler absorbed the early pressure and then unfurled his power-packed strokes. The duo stitched a 60-run stand that swung the momentum back Gujarat’s way. Sudharsan’s departure in the 8th over brought in Sherfane Rutherford, who made a quickfire 43 off 34 to keep the tempo going.
But the evening belonged to Buttler. Displaying class, composure, and clinical execution, he dispatched the bowlers to all parts of the stadium. His knock included 11 fours and 4 sixes, striking at a mighty 179.63. Buttler remained unbeaten, sealing the chase in the 20th over with a boundary off Kuldeep Yadav.
Delhi Capitals Post 203 But Fail to Defend Again
Earlier in the day, DC won the toss and opted to bat, putting up a total that looked defendable but lacked the punch to trouble a side with GT's batting depth. Abishek Porel gave them a flying start, smashing 18 off just 9 balls, but his stay was cut short by Arshad Khan. Karun Nair, too, looked fluent, contributing a handy 31, while skipper KL Rahul managed a run-a-ball 28 before falling LBW to Prasidh Krishna.
It was Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs who carried DC to a competitive total with a 50+ run partnership. Axar’s 39 off 32 showed his growing confidence as a T20 batter, but it was Ashutosh Sharma’s blistering 37 off 19 that gave DC the late burst they needed. His knock included some innovative strokes that lifted Delhi beyond the 200-mark.
But that total didn’t prove to be enough. DC’s bowlers struggled to make early inroads, and apart from Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar, none could trouble GT’s strong batting order. Starc had an off day, conceding 49 from his 3.2 overs, while Vipraj Nigam and Axar failed to contain the scoring. Even Kuldeep’s solitary wicket came a little too late in the chase.
Prasidh Krishna Leads Bowling with Four-for
For Gujarat, the star with the ball was Prasidh Krishna, whose 4-wicket haul (4/41) dismantled DC’s top and lower order alike. He struck at crucial junctures removing Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Vipraj Nigam to derail any chance of a 220+ score for Delhi. Arshad Khan also bowled economically and picked up the important wicket of Porel.
Mohammed Siraj had a mixed outing with 1 for 47, while Rashid Khan was tidy without any breakthroughs. R. Sai Kishore, despite going for a few, grabbed the important scalp of Ashutosh Sharma.
What This Means for the Points Table
This win takes GT to 10 points from 7 matches and helps them edge closer to the playoffs bracket. More importantly, it underlines their growing consistency and flexibility attributes that are crucial during the business end of the season. For Delhi Capitals, this marks their third loss in seven games. Their inability to defend targets, especially after setting up strong totals, is becoming a concerning trend.
The defeat also exposed DC’s over-reliance on individual brilliance be it Rahul or Stubbs to pull off victories. As the league intensifies, they'll need greater consistency from their bowling unit and better utilisation of middle-over phases to stay in contention.
