Player of the Match: Mohammed Siraj
The Indian Premier League 2025 is heating up, and in the 14th match of the season, Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru turned out to be a one-sided affair. Played under the lights at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Titans cruised to an emphatic 8-wicket win over the Royal Challengers, chasing down a target of 170 with ease and control.
While Jos Buttler’s fireworks and Sai Sudharsan’s classy knock grabbed attention, it was Mohammed Siraj who was rightfully named Player of the Match for a devastating spell that derailed RCB early on.
Siraj Wrecks RCB Top-Order With Fiery Opening Spell
After Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl, Mohammed Siraj wasted no time justifying the decision. In a superb display of pace and discipline, he rattled the Royal Challengers’ top order, picking up three wickets including Philip Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, and the dangerous Liam Livingstone. Siraj’s spell of 4-0-19-3 was not just economical, but momentum-shifting.
Virat Kohli, the heartbeat of RCB, started off with promise but couldn’t convert his start, falling for 10 off 6 to Prasidh Krishna. Within the powerplay, RCB had collapsed to 42 for 4, and the recovery from there was always going to be uphill.
RCB Batters Falter Despite Middle-Order Resistance
With the top order blown away, it was up to the middle and lower order to patch things up. Rajat Patidar, captaining the side in this game, scored a patient 12 before falling LBW to Ishant Sharma. Jitesh Sharma (33 off 21) and Krunal Pandya (5 off 5) tried to rebuild, but it was Tim David’s quickfire 32 from 18 balls that pushed RCB close to the 170 mark.
Despite the late push, the total felt below par at the high-scoring Chinnaswamy venue. RCB finished their innings at 169 for 8, with Sai Kishore bowling a tight 4-over spell and picking up two important wickets.
Jos Buttler And Sai Sudharsan Put On A Show
In reply, Gujarat Titans approached the chase with confidence and clarity. Shubman Gill, leading the side, fell early to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but Sai Sudharsan continued his golden form, anchoring the innings with a well-paced 49 off 36.
However, the night truly belonged to Jos Buttler, who looked in ominous touch. He unleashed his full range of strokes and took apart the RCB bowling with stunning ease. Buttler smashed an unbeaten 73 off just 39 balls, guiding GT to the target in just 17.5 overs.
Joining him in the final stages was Sherfane Rutherford, who added finishing touches with a blistering 30 off 18 balls, ensuring a net run rate boost and a dominant win for the Titans.
Gujarat Titans’ Bowling Depth Shines Again
Beyond Siraj’s brilliance, Gujarat's bowling attack operated like a well-oiled unit. Prasidh Krishna was sharp and struck early, Ishant Sharma turned back the clock with a disciplined spell, and Sai Kishore’s ability to control the middle overs was pivotal. Even Rashid Khan, while wicketless, applied the brakes when RCB looked to counter.
This kind of depth across both pace and spin makes Gujarat one of the most balanced teams in IPL 2025. With this victory, they not only collected two points but also sent a strong message to the rest of the league.
RCB’s Inconsistency Persists
For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, this match exposed old vulnerabilities. Their reliance on a few key batters continues to haunt them, and their bowling lacked the firepower to contain a rampaging Titans lineup.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was economical and picked a wicket, but the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam struggled with line and length. Their economy rates hovered around double digits, allowing Gujarat to chase with ease.
RCB now needs to reassess combinations, especially around their middle order and pace options, if they hope to stay relevant in the playoff race.
What’s Next
With this win, Gujarat Titans now move closer to the top of the IPL 2025 table, having established dominance with both bat and ball. Their next fixtures will test their consistency, but if Siraj and Buttler continue in this form, they’ll remain title contenders.
As for RCB, they need quick fixes and morale-boosting performances. The leadership of Rajat Patidar will be under the scanner, and fans will be hoping for the experienced core especially Kohli and Hazlewood to spark a turnaround.
