Harleen Deol Shines as Gujarat Giants Secure Crucial Win in WPL 2025
Harleen Deol delivered a match-winning performance to guide Gujarat Giants to a five-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals in their seventh match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. Chasing a challenging target of 178 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Harleen’s unbeaten 70* proved to be the difference as the Giants crossed the finish line with three balls to spare.
Her performance not only secured an important win for Gujarat but also drew high praise from Head Coach Michael Klinger, who believes she has all the makings of a long-term India player across all formats.
“Harleen Can Play Multiple Roles for India” – Michael Klinger
Speaking after the match, Klinger emphasized Harleen’s versatility and growing importance in the Indian cricketing setup. “If you’re an Indian coach or selector, you know that Harleen can play multiple roles whether in the middle order or up top. That flexibility is a huge asset for any T20 squad,” he said.
Harleen’s aggressive intent and ability to handle high-pressure situations have been a standout feature of her performances this season. Klinger pointed out that she has shown significant improvement, particularly in her shot-making and fearless approach against quality bowling attacks.
“This season, we asked her to show more intent, step down the wicket, and take the attack to the bowlers. She’s done exactly that, and it’s great to see her execute it under pressure. I think she’s going to be a long-term Indian player in all formats, and she has certainly proven her ability in T20 cricket,” Klinger added.
Gujarat Giants Strengthen Playoff Chances
With this win, Gujarat Giants have solidified their position in the WPL 2025 standings, now sitting second on the points table with four wins and eight points from seven matches. A hat-trick of victories in their last three games has given them strong momentum heading into the business end of the tournament.
Klinger credited the team’s turnaround to tactical adjustments and the addition of key players. “One of the biggest factors has been the extra depth in our bowling attack. The inclusion of Kashvee and Priya has given us eight extra quality overs, which has been a massive boost,” he explained.
Another contributing factor has been the experience gained by Gujarat’s players on the international stage. “In the last 12 months, several of our players have featured in international games for India and India A. That exposure to high-pressure cricket against world-class players has prepared them well for this tournament,” he added.
Next Challenge: Mumbai Indians Await
Gujarat Giants will now face a stern test in their final league match against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium on March 10. A win could see them secure a direct spot in the playoffs, further cementing their status as title contenders.
For Harleen Deol, this season has been a breakthrough one, and her performances have only strengthened her case for an extended run in the national side. With selectors keeping a close eye on WPL 2025 performances ahead of upcoming international assignments, she has certainly made a strong impression.
