Harry Brook has surpassed colleague Joe Root as the top Men's Test hitter, according to the ICC Men's Player Rankings, which were revised this week. Brook's scores of 123 and 55 in England's stunning 323-run victory over New Zealand in Wellington gave them an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match World Test Championship series and sent him to the top of the batting rankings for the first time. Brook, 25, is the youngest hitter to top the men's standings since Kane Williamson in late 2015.
Root, who also hit a century in the match (106 off 130 balls), is only one rating point behind Brook's 898 points, surrendering the top rank that he has comfortably held since July of this year - a position he has achieved nine times in his stellar career.
South Africa has risen to the top of the ICC World Test Championship table with another impressive victory over Sri Lanka. They defeated their opponents by 109 runs in Gqeberha, propelling captain Temba Bavuma (753 points) up three positions to a personal high seventh among hitters with scores of 78 and 66. Kyle Verreynne's third Test century propelled him into the world's top 25 hitters, where he now ranks 23rd after gaining 15 places with 636 points.
Dinesh Chandimal of Sri Lanka moved up two spots to 15th place, with 685 points.
Travis Head's match-winning 140 in Australia's day-night, series-levelling Test win against India propelled him back into the top five of the batting rankings. He moved up six spots to seventh with 781 points as the five-match series heads to Brisbane on Saturday. His colleague, Marnus Labuschagne, also improved, moving up three positions to 13th (705 points).
Jasprit Bumrah cemented his position at the top of the bowlers' list with a career-high 890 points, while Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, moved up one spot to fourth place. Matt Henry of New Zealand also moved up one rank, to ninth.
Mitchell Starc, Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, and Keshav Maharaj also improved significantly, moving up to 11th, 15th, 17th, and joint-18th, respectively. Brydon Carse of England moved up six places to 37th after a strong start to his Test career.
Ravindra Jadeja of India stays at the top of the men's Test all-rounders list, with Bangladesh's skipper, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, moving up two places to second after their drew series against the West Indies in Jamaica.
In ODIs, West Indies' Sherfane Rutherford's spectacular 113 in the opening match against Bangladesh propelled him 62 places to joint-31st with the Netherlands' Scott Edwards, while Shai Hope went up one spot to eighth on the batters list. Mahmudullah of Bangladesh moved up three spots to 40th, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz climbed nine ranks to 81st. Gudakesh Motie of the Windies jumped four places to ninth in the bowlers list and another four to equal 36th in the all-rounders category.
In T20Is, Pakistan's captain Mohammad Rizwan moved up two spots to sixth in the batters list following their 11-run series-opening loss to South Africa on Tuesday night, while Shaheen Shah Afridi gained six spots to 20th.
