Moving the ICC Women's T20 World Cup to the UAE
The United Arab Emirates will host the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2024 instead of Bangladesh, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The event, which was originally slated to be in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to October 20, has been moved.
"It is a shame not to be hosting the Women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event," stated ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.
"I would want to thank the BCB team for looking into every possibility to try to make it possible for the event to be staged in Bangladesh, but that was not possible due to travel advisories from several of the participating teams' governments. They will still be able to host, though. In the near future, we hope to bring an ICC global event to Bangladesh.
"We look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026. I'd also like to thank Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB."
Greg Barclay, the chair of the ICC, informed the board that he will not seek reelection a third time and that he will leave the position at the end of November. Prior to being re-elected in 2022, Barclay was chosen as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020.
It is now mandatory for current directors to propose candidates for the next Chair by August 27, 2024. Should there be multiple nominees, an election will take place, and the new Chair will take office on December 1, 2024.
