Cricket fans were in for a nostalgic treat as INDM clashed with ENGM in the 3rd match of the International Masters League T20, 2025. Held at the iconic Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, this match brought together legendary cricketers from both nations. India Masters won the toss and opted to bowl, immediately putting England Masters under pressure.
Batting first, ENGM struggled to find momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Former England captain Eoin Morgan, leading the side, tried to stabilize the innings but was dismissed for 14 off 13 balls, caught by Pawan Negi off Dhawal Kulkarni. Phil Mustard, who opened the innings, couldn't last long and fell to Abhimanyu Mithun after scoring 8 runs. Tim Ambrose contributed 23 runs before Pawan Negi dismissed him, leaving England Masters at 79/3 in 13.2 overs when the game was interrupted.
England's batting lineup, featuring experienced names like Darren Maddy, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Tim Bresnan, and Chris Tremlett, now holds the key to posting a competitive total. With Maddy still at the crease, ENGM hopes to recover and put up a challenging score.
On the bowling front, INDM bowlers put on a commendable show. Dhawal Kulkarni led the attack, finishing with figures of 2-0-10-1, while Abhimanyu Mithun was highly economical, conceding just 5 runs in his 2 overs. Pawan Negi made a crucial breakthrough, ensuring that England's run rate remained under control. The other bowlers, including Irfan Pathan, Stuart Binny, and Vinay Kumar, also kept the pressure on with tight spells.
The mandatory powerplay overs saw ENGM struggling to accelerate, scoring 30 runs in the first 6 overs. This sluggish start added to their woes, as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. With just 79 runs on the board and seven wickets in hand, their middle and lower order need to step up in the remaining overs.
INDM's playing XI featured cricketing greats, including Sachin Tendulkar (c), Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, and Ambati Rayudu (wk), alongside their bowling unit that successfully restricted England’s top order. On the other hand, ENGM missed the services of veterans like Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell, who were benched for this game.
With INDM in a dominant position, England Masters need a strong finish to post a defendable total. Cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the second innings to see how the Indian batting legends chase down the target. Will England’s experienced bowlers, including Monty Panesar, Steven Finn, and Ryan Sidebottom, be able to defend this total, or will India cruise to victory?
Stay tuned for the thrilling second innings as these legends of the game continue to relive their golden days on the cricket field.
