India Celebrates the Triumph of Athletes Returning from the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025

A Grand Welcome for India's Special Olympics Champions

March 17, 2025, New Delhi: Special Olympics Bharat, on Monday, hosted a grand welcome ceremony for the Indian athletes returning from the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025, held in Turin, Italy. The event took place at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Smt. Raksha Khadse, and President of Special Olympics Bharat, Dr. Mallika Nadda. The highlight of the evening was the presence of Bharti, a Special Olympics Bharat athlete, who won two gold medals in the tournament.

India’s Stellar Performance at Special Olympics 2025

The Indian contingent, consisting of 30 athletes and 19 support staff members, delivered an inspiring performance, bringing home a total of 33 medals. The tally included:

  • 8 Gold Medals

  • 18 Silver Medals

  • 7 Bronze Medals

Indian athletes competed across six sporting disciplines, demonstrating exceptional skills and determination in:

  • Alpine Skiing

  • Snowboarding

  • Floorball

  • Snowshoeing

  • Short Track Speed Skating

  • Cross Country Skiing

Cash Rewards for Medal Winners

Recognizing the extraordinary achievements of the athletes, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced increased cash prizes for the winners:

  • Gold Medalists: ₹20 Lakhs

  • Silver Medalists: ₹14 Lakhs

  • Bronze Medalists: ₹8 Lakhs
