India secured a commanding victory against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I on October 9, 2024, held in New Delhi. After being sent in to bat, India posted a daunting 221/9, courtesy of Nitish Kumar Reddy’s blistering 74 off 34 balls and Rinku Singh’s dynamic 53 off 29 deliveries. Despite a challenging start, these two stitched a critical 108-run partnership for the fourth wicket, rescuing India from 52/3. Bangladesh struggled to keep pace, failing to chase the target as India’s bowlers kept the pressure on.
India’s top order, led by Sanju Samson, started explosively but encountered early setbacks. Samson began with a flurry of boundaries, but the pace trio of Tanzim Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed rattled India’s innings by quickly removing him and other key players, including Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, during the powerplay.
After the early setbacks, Nitish Reddy took charge. His innings was marked by aggressive stroke play, including 4 fours and 7 sixes. Reddy’s ability to find gaps and clear boundaries was remarkable, as he quickly reached his fifty off just 27 deliveries. He was particularly severe on the Bangladeshi spinners, hitting them for multiple sixes.

The rescue came from Nitish Kumar Reddy, playing just his second T20I, and Rinku Singh, who was coming off an excellent IPL season. Reddy smashed seven sixes and four boundaries to reach his maiden T20I half-century in just 27 balls. He particularly took a liking to Bangladesh’s leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, hammering three sixes in one over. Reddy’s scintillating innings was supported by Rinku’s powerful stroke play, with Rinku hitting five boundaries and three sixes to complement Reddy’s aggression.
Rinku Singh also played a significant role, scoring 53 runs off 29 balls. His cameo included 5 fours and 3 sixes, providing the much-needed impetus in the latter stages of the innings. His partnership with Reddy was pivotal in laying the foundation.

Though Bangladesh’s pace attack regained control toward the end of India’s innings, with Mustafizur claiming crucial wickets, India managed to set a daunting total of 221/9.
In response, Bangladesh’s batting lineup faltered under pressure. Despite efforts from key players, they were unable to match the required run rate, and India’s bowling unit, including Arshdeep Singh, dominated the proceedings, sealing India’s victory and series lead.
Chasing 222, Bangladesh faltered early, losing wickets at regular intervals and never recovering. Mahmudullah (39 off 25) tried to keep the fight alive, but the pressure proved too much. India’s bowlers, led by Nitish Reddy (2/23), ensured Bangladesh could only manage 135/9 in their 20 overs.
