Ireland Secures Third Consecutive Test Win Against ZIM in Bulawayo

Ireland Completes Dominant Test Win Over Zimbabwe

A clinical bowling performance from Matthew Humphreys (6-57) powered Ireland (IRE) to a 63-run victory over Zimbabwe (ZIM) on the final day of the Only Test at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. The win marks IRE’s third consecutive Test triumph and maintains their perfect record against ZIM in the format.

Starting the final day at 183/7, needing 109 more runs to win, ZIM’s hopes rested on Wessly Madhevere (84), but IRE’s disciplined bowling attack ensured a quick finish, wrapping up the match early on Monday morning.

Humphreys’ Heroics Seal Victory

The 21-year-old Humphreys delivered a historic spell, claiming 6/57—the best-ever figures for IRE in Test cricket. His early breakthrough came in the second over, trapping Newman Nyamhuri (8) LBW with a delivery that straightened after pitching.

Despite Madhevere’s brave resistance, ZIM’s lower order faltered. IRE’s fielding lapses gave Richard Ngarava (11) two lives, with Lorcan Tucker dropping an edge and Andy McBrine missing a caught-and-bowled chance.

However, Humphreys struck again, clean bowling Madhevere with the new ball, effectively ending ZIM’s chances. McBrine then delivered the final blow, dismissing Ngarava to seal a memorable Test win for IRE.

A Hard-Fought Test Battle

The match was a see-saw contest, with both sides exchanging the upper hand across four intense days.

IRE 1st Innings: 260 all out, led by Andy McBrine’s gritty 90; B Muzarabani 7-58*

ZIM 1st Innings: 267 all out, Nick Welch top-scoring with 90; B McCarthy 4-75

IRE 2nd Innings: 298 all out, Andrew Balbirnie (66) steadying the ship; R Ngarava 4-55

ZIM 2nd Innings: 228 all out, Madhevere fighting with 84, but Humphreys taking a match-winning 6-57

With this win, IRE continues to make strides in Test cricket, showcasing their growing strength in the longest format.

What’s Next for Ireland and Zimbabwe?

This victory cements IRE’s confidence in red-ball cricket, while ZIM will look to regroup as they aim for better performances in upcoming fixtures. Both teams will now shift focus to their limited-overs campaigns, with key series lined up in the coming months.

Can IRE build on their Test success, or will ZIM bounce back stronger in their next challenge? Stay tuned for more thrilling cricket action!
