DUBLIN: The freshly crowned Asia Cup champions, Sri Lanka, will be the first opponent for Ireland Women when they return to action this month for the first of two home white-ball series.
 

The multi-format, five-match series will take place between August 11 and August 20, 2024. Having only met six times previously, this is the first time the two sides have faced off in a competitive bilateral series.

IMPORTANT POINTS

  • The three one-day matches are a part of the Women's Championship of the ICC.
  • Ireland's women have never defeated Sri Lanka's women in a competitive match
  • Sri Lanka recently defeated India to win the 2024 Asia Cup.
  • Una Raymond-Hoey of Ireland rejoins the Irish team after five years away in Australia.
  • Alice Tector and Christina Coulter Reilly have been summoned by Ireland for the first time.

This is the two teams' first-ever bilateral series. When Ireland and Sri Lanka played competitively against one another in 2010, Sri Lanka won five times and one match ended in a tie.

  • Ireland vs. Sri Lanka (T20I; ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier): Sri Lanka prevailed by 146 runs on February 8, 2017.
  • 20 March 2016: ICC Women's T20 World Cup match between Sri Lanka and Ireland (T20I); Sri Lanka prevailed by 14 runs.
  • Ireland vs. Sri Lanka (T20I; ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier) July 27, 2013: Sri Lanka prevailed by eight wickets.
  • 28 April 2011: Women's Quadrangular Series: ODI vs Sri Lanka and Ireland - No outcome
  • Ireland against. Sri Lanka (T20I; ICC Women's Cricket T20 Challenge): Sri Lanka prevailed by 11 runs on October 14, 2010.
  • October 12, 2010: Sri Lanka defeated Ireland in an ODI (ICC Women's Cricket Challenge) by two wickets.

In the 2018 ICC Women's T20 World Cup warm-up match, Ireland defeated the other team by eight wickets.
