New Delhi, August 31, 2024: In a low-scoring match at the Adani Delhi Premier League T20, held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, Purani Dilli 6 defeated West Delhi Lions by a thrilling 6-wicket margin. Purani Dilli 6 is currently ranked third on the points table, and this victory maintains them in the running for a semi-final position.
Purani Dilli 6 got off to a good start as they chased a target of 140, with captain Arpit Rana scoring 20 off 13 balls and opening partner Manjeet adding 32 off 26 deliveries. But the dismissals of Yug Gupta (12) and Rana quickly stopped them in their tracks, forcing them to adopt a more cautious strategy. This tactic failed, as the side struggled at 82/4 after 12 overs, losing two more wickets in short succession: Manjeet, the set hitter, and Arnav Bagga, who scored just 6 runs off 14 balls.
Keshav Dalal, the wicketkeeper-batsman, and Lalit Yadav sensed the need to steady the innings and together they made a vital 59 runs to lead their team to victory. With five fours and a six while remaining undefeated at 47 off 30 balls, Dalal struck a match-winning knock. With a maximum and 17 off 16 balls, Lalit Yadav offered crucial support as Purani Dilli 6 reached the finish line in 18.1 overs.
Earlier, Purani Dilli 6's disciplined bowling assault prevented the West Delhi Lions from posting a more competitive score, even though Krish Yadav gave them a strong start. The Lions also had trouble forming partnerships. Ayush Singh and his colleagues' contributions were crucial in keeping the Lions to a low total, which created the conditions for a thrilling chase in the second half.
Following their opponents' decision to bat first, Krish Yadav gave the West Delhi Lions a good start to their innings with a solid knock of 43 runs off 32 balls that included six boundaries. His opening partner, Ankit Rajesh Kumar, was removed in the fourth over after scoring just 16 runs off of 15 deliveries, thus his efforts were not aided at the other end.
The middle order found it difficult to gain momentum as wickets fell often. Captain Hrithik Shokeen scored just two runs, while Anmol Sharma was removed without a run. Aditya Bhandari (6) and Aryan Dalal (14) did not contribute significantly either, which put the West Delhi Lions in a risky situation.
Tishant Dabla offered a momentary but crucial spark during the collapse, scoring a rapid 26 off just 12 balls, including two fours and two sixes. As the innings came to a close, Shivank Vashisth was trying to raise the total with a score of 18 off 13 balls. But in the end, the West Delhi Lions were dismissed after just 139 runs in 19.3 overs.
Medium-pacer Ayush Singh spearheaded Purani Dilli 6's bowling attack and was the team's best performer, taking four wickets for just 25 runs in his four overs. Yash Bhardwaj provided him with valuable help, taking three vital wickets; Prince Yadav and Yug Gupta also contributed, taking two and one wickets, respectively.
Quick Scores:
West Delhi Lions: 43 off 32, Tishant Dabla 26 off 12, Ayush Singh 4/25, and West Delhi Lions: 139/10 in 19.3 overs
141/4 in 18.1 overs (Keshav Dalal 47 off 30, Manjeet 32 off 26, Saksham Gahlot 2/22) is Purani Dilli 6's score.
