Sahan Arachchige, a left-handed batter and right-arm off-spinner, will play for Sri Lanka in place of Lahiru Kumara, who is out with a side strain sustained in Friday's game against the Netherlands.
Lahiru Kumara's side strain from the Netherlands game has forced him to withdraw from the CWC23 Qualifier, dealing Sri Lanka yet another injury setback.
Arachchige has been hard at work at the domestic circuit for more than eight years, scoring 1454 runs at an average of 29.67 in 66 List-A matches while picking up 38 wickets.
Along with Dilshan Madushanka and Dunith Wellalage, Arachchige was one of three stand-by players travelled to Zimbabwe after the qualifier started to fill in for injured players.
With Kumara's injury, Matheesha Pathirana may get more opportunities. In his brief cricketing career, the talented bowler has played in just one ODI, but he just finished an outstanding season with the title-winning team Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023
