Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings – PSL 2025 Match Recap
The sixth match of the Pakistan Super League 2025 at the National Stadium in Karachi witnessed Lahore Qalandars hand a resounding 65-run defeat to hosts Karachi Kings in a game that unravelled rapidly for David Warner’s side. With this emphatic win, Lahore not only collected crucial points but also delivered a statement about their growing confidence in the competition.
First Innings: Fakhar Zaman Fires Lahore to 201
Put in to bat by Karachi, Lahore Qalandars got off to a slightly shaky start, losing Mohammad Naeem and Abdullah Shafique cheaply. However, Fakhar Zaman’s scintillating 76 off 47 balls set the tone for a formidable total. Zaman showcased his full range power-hitting, precise placement, and composed shot selection—to dismantle the Karachi pace unit. He was well supported by Daryl Mitchell, who played an equally destructive knock of 75 off just 41 balls, turning the momentum heavily in Lahore’s favour during the middle overs.
Despite the wickets of Shafique and Billings falling at critical points, the Qalandars managed to keep the run rate soaring, thanks in part to late cameos from Sikandar Raza and Rishad Hossain. The team posted a commanding 201/6 in their 20 overs more than par on the Karachi pitch.
While Karachi did strike back with Hasan Ali’s four-wicket haul, including three key scalps in the powerplay, it wasn’t enough to stop Lahore’s batting juggernaut. Ali ended with 4/28, one of the few bright sparks for the Kings on a tough night.
Scorecard
Lahore Qalandars – 201/6 (20 overs)

Shaheen Afridi 3/34, Rishad Hossain 3/26
Result: Lahore Qalandars won by 65 runs
Player of the Match: Fakhar Zaman
Karachi Kings Collapse Under Pressure
Chasing 202 on a surface that initially looked batting-friendly, the Karachi Kings were rocked early by the sheer pace and discipline of Lahore’s bowling unit. Shaheen Afridi got rid of both openers David Warner and James Vince in the first over, leaving the hosts reeling at 0 for 2. With that early double-blow, the chase went into freefall mode.
Tim Seifert tried to steady the innings but fell to Asif Afridi’s clever bowling. Shan Masood and Irfan Khan showed brief resistance, but the wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Rishad Hossain’s wrist spin proved especially effective as he removed Masood, Irfan Khan, and Abbas Afridi, making it nearly impossible for Karachi to recover.
Khushdil Shah’s 39 off 27 gave the fans a glimpse of hope, but his dismissal in the 19th over all but ended the resistance. Eventually, Karachi folded for 136, with nearly a full over to spare.
Bowling Masterclass: Shaheen and Rishad Lead the Charge
Captain Shaheen Afridi led from the front, picking up 3 wickets, including the prized scalps of Warner and Vince in his opening over. Afridi set the tone early, with bounce, accuracy, and aggression that the Karachi batters couldn't handle. He was backed superbly by Rishad Hossain, whose 3/26 added a deadly spin dimension to Lahore’s attack.
The supporting cast Zaman Khan and Haris Rauf kept things tight, while Sikandar Raza added two valuable wickets in his short spell. The Qalandars' bowling effort was a perfect mix of aggression, control, and intelligent use of conditions.
Karachi’s Batting: Big Names, Small Contributions
This defeat raises several questions for Karachi Kings. The top order, including experienced names like Warner, Vince, and Masood, failed to absorb the early pressure or build any momentum. Warner’s first-ball duck and Vince’s soft dismissal only amplified the nerves.
With little application shown through the innings, the middle order looked clueless against spin, and the lower order only delayed the inevitable. The absence of a genuine anchor or a consolidating knock was glaring.
Lahore’s Rise, Karachi’s Reflection
This win gives Lahore Qalandars a massive morale boost, especially after some inconsistencies in their earlier outings. Fakhar Zaman returning to form with a thunderous knock adds depth and confidence to the top order. Mitchell’s aggression in the middle and the bowling brilliance of Afridi and Hossain solidify Lahore’s position as one of the more balanced teams in the league.
On the flip side, Karachi Kings need urgent introspection. With only one win from their first three matches, pressure is mounting. Their bowling has lacked consistency and their batting appears brittle. Skipper Warner will have to rally his troops quickly before the playoffs start slipping away.
