MIW Dominate with the Bat

Mumbai Indians Women put up a batting masterclass after being put in to bat by Gujarat Giants. The opening pair of Yastika Bhatia (15 off 14) and Hayley Matthews (77 off 50) set the tone, with Matthews leading the charge. The West Indies all-rounder played fluently, smashing 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 154.00.

Following Bhatia’s early dismissal, Nat Sciver-Brunt joined the onslaught, taking the Gujarat bowlers to the cleaners. The English all-rounder matched Matthews stroke for stroke, hammering seven fours and two sixes in her blistering 77 off 41 balls.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (36 off 12) added fireworks at the death, ensuring Mumbai posted a mammoth 213/4—the highest total in WPL 2025.

Danielle Gibson was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat, claiming 2/40 in four overs, while Kashvee Gautam and Meghna Singh took a wicket each.

Gujarat’s Chase Falls Apart

Chasing 214, Gujarat Giants were under pressure from the first over. Their star batter Beth Mooney (6) fell early, dismissed by Shabnim Ismail, setting the tone for Mumbai’s bowling attack.

Danielle Gibson (34 off 25) and Phoebe Litchfield (31 off 20) tried to rebuild, but the required run rate kept soaring. Harleen Deol (8) and Ashleigh Gardner (8) fell cheaply, exposing Gujarat’s fragile middle order.

Bharti Fulmali (30 off 20) fought hard, but wickets kept tumbling as Hayley Matthews (3/30) and Amelia Kerr (2/28) tightened the noose. Gujarat were eventually bowled out for 166 in 19.2 overs, falling 47 runs short.

Hayley Matthews Shines with All-Round Brilliance

Matthews had a night to remember, playing a match-winning role with both bat and ball. Her 77-run knock provided the perfect platform, and she backed it up with 3/30 in 3.2 overs, ensuring MIW’s bowlers dominated Gujarat’s batting lineup.

Amelia Kerr (2/28) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (1/31) also contributed, while Shabnim Ismail’s early breakthrough ensured MIW never lost control.

With this convincing victory, Mumbai Indians Women secured their place in the WPL 2025 final. They now await the winner of the second eliminator between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals or UP Warriorz. The summit clash is set to take place on March 15 at the same venue.
