Williamson to lead New Zealand in Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series

New Zealand has named the 15-men squad for Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series which was scheduled to begin on 6th September. Kane Williamson, who recoved from injury will lead the team. Tom Latham will continue as his deputy. The full-strength squad will departs for Australia on Friday September 2.

Matt Henry is the only change from the 15-man squad that travelled New Zealand's first one-day series victory in the West Indies earlier this week, with Spinner Ish Sodhi dropped out. Injured Kyle Jamieson (back) and Adam Milne (achilles) weren’t considered for selection.

Medium-Pacer Ben Sears, who was called for West Indies tour as an injury replacement for Matt Henry, and batter Glenn Phillips have been retained thier spot for the upcoming 3-match ODI series, leaving no space for batters Henry Nicholls and Will Young.

Kane Williamson, who took over as captain after missing the last two games against the West Indies in Barbados, said the team couldn't wait to cross the Tasman.

“It’s a great rivalry we have with Australia; it’s always a huge occasion for the fans, and the team really look forward to it,” said Williamson.

“You grow up watching the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series and remembering the great battles, so to be part of another chapter is pretty special.

“We know how tough Australia are to beat in their own conditions and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
