Andy Brown, a well-known British artist, will paint live at Hagley Oval, the Cello Basin Reserve, and Seddon Park, joining an exclusive roster of athletic sites.
In order to follow the highly anticipated Tegel Test series between the BLACKCAPS and England, which begins at Hagley Oval tomorrow, Brown has traveled to New Zealand for the first time.
For the past ten years, Brown has traveled the world painting live sports stadiums, from Lord's and Old Trafford in England to Kensington Oval in Barbados and Yankees Stadium in New York. In his distinct impressionist technique, he captures the action, drama, history, and ambiance of games as they happen.
From Buckingham Palace to Cooperstown, New York's National Baseball Hall of Fame, his work has garnered international recognition and served as the basis for other books he has authored.
Brown wants to paint a canvas every day of the forthcoming Test series, and the places where he paints frequently buy his work, or collectors and ardent cricket fans buy it.
Making it to New Zealand for the historic Test series was a dream come true, according to Brown.
"It is truly a very special moment for me to be here and paint such a historic fixture," Brown remarked upon arriving in Christchurch.
"I can't wait to paint New Zealand's natural beauty and vibrant sports culture. Being the one introducing what I do to this region of the world is an honor.
In addition to India winning the T20 World Cup in the West Indies, I have recorded a number of historic moments this year, such as Jimmy Anderson's 700th wicket in Dharamshala and his final wicket at Lords this summer.
"There will undoubtedly be many more special moments in this series that I can capture in paint."
