Pakistan Gears Up for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, marking the country's first ICC event in 29 years. Cricket’s return to Pakistan at this scale is a monumental moment, with Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi set to host matches. The tournament opener sees Pakistan take on New Zealand at the National Stadium, Karachi, on February 19, setting the stage for a thrilling competition.
Karachi – The City of Lights Ready for Action
Former PAK captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led the team to Champions Trophy glory in 2017, couldn’t hide his excitement about his home city getting the spotlight.
“Karachi is my city. It’s the City of Lights, full of life and energy. Cricket has deep roots here, and we are eager to welcome the world. Fans love great cricket, and I know they are excited to see Kane Williamson in action when PAK faces NZ,” said Sarfaraz.
Beyond cricket, he urged visitors to explore Karachi’s vibrant food scene and experience its warm hospitality.
Lahore – The Heart of Pakistan Cricket
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with a 35,000-seat capacity, will host marquee games, including Australia vs. England on February 22, a semi-final, and possibly the final on March 9.
PAK skipper Babar Azam, who hails from Lahore, spoke fondly about his connection to the city:
“Lahore is special to me because it's where I started my cricket journey. The love and support from fans here are unmatched. The atmosphere at Gaddafi Stadium is electric, and I can't wait to play in front of a packed home crowd.”
Apart from cricket, Lahore’s food scene is legendary, and Sarfaraz recommended trying paya, halwa puri, and lassi for an authentic Lahori experience.
Rawalpindi – The Home of Fast Bowling Legends
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with a 20,000-seat capacity, will host Pakistan’s crucial Group A match against Bangladesh on February 27, alongside NZ vs. BAN and SA vs. AUS fixtures.
The city has produced legendary pacers like Shoaib Akhtar (Rawalpindi Express) and Haris Rauf, and it is known for its high-scoring matches.
“Rawalpindi is a batter’s paradise, and I expect to see scores of 350-plus here. The fans are passionate, and the city has a unique charm with historic landmarks like Rohtas Fort and Taxila,” Sarfaraz added.
A Historic Tournament for Pakistan
With world-class upgrades at the Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi stadiums, PAK is ready to welcome international teams and fans. The hospitality, passion, and love for cricket make this a must-watch ICC event.
