The Senior Selection Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association, led by Chairman Mr. Sanjay Patil, along with committee members Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr. Kiran Powar, and Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti, has unveiled the Mumbai squad for the first two matches of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season. The team will face Baroda from October 11-14 and Maharashtra from October 18-21.
Mumbai's squad features a strong blend of experience and promising young talent as the team sets its sights on a successful Ranji Trophy campaign. Notable inclusions include the seasoned Ajinkya Rahane, who will captain the side, and explosive opener Prithvi Shaw.
Here is the full list of players selected for the opening two matches:
Ajinkya Rahane: The veteran batter and former India Test vice-captain brings invaluable experience and leadership. His presence will be key as Mumbai looks to get off to a strong start.
Prithvi Shaw: Known for his attacking style at the top of the order, Shaw will be eager to impress after a mixed international season. His ability to score quickly will put opposition teams under pressure early.
Shardul Thakur: The all-rounder has been a crucial part of India’s bowling attack in recent times. Thakur’s ability to swing the ball and contribute with the bat will be an asset for Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer: Returning from injury, Iyer will aim to get some much-needed match practice and find his rhythm ahead of the national season.
Shams Mulani: As a leading spinner, Mulani has been one of Mumbai’s most consistent performers in recent seasons, and his role in the middle overs will be critical.
The selected squad will look to leverage their balance of experience and youth to secure early wins in the tournament.
Both matches promise to be intense, with Mumbai eager to set the tone for the rest of their season. The team will play a pivotal role in determining their standing as they aim for another strong Ranji Trophy campaign.
