RCB vs RR IPL 2025: Philip Salt, Virat Kohli Star as Royal Challengers Bengaluru Crush Rajasthan Royals by 9 Wickets
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) put up a commanding show at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, thrashing Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 9 wickets in the 28th match of IPL 2025. Chasing a target of 174 runs, RCB's opening pair of Philip Salt and Virat Kohli delivered a batting masterclass that RR had no answers to. Earlier, despite Yashasvi Jaiswal's classy 75, RR could only manage 173/4 in their 20 overs, as RCB's bowling attack executed their plans with precision. This comprehensive win further cements RCB’s strong run away from home.

Philip Salt’s Power-Show Floors Rajasthan Royals
Philip Salt’s knock was nothing short of a batting spectacle. Coming into the match with the responsibility to give RCB a solid start, Salt went after RR's bowlers right from the word go. His 65 off just 33 deliveries was filled with crisp boundaries and monstrous sixes, completely neutralising the early threat of Jofra Archer and Maheesh Theekshana. Salt's aggressive intent ensured that RCB's required run rate was never an issue.
His dismissal, caught by Jaiswal off Kartikeya, came with the score already at 92 in the 9th over. But by then, the damage was done, and RCB were firmly in control.
Virat Kohli: The Chase Master at His Best
While Philip Salt’s fireworks caught the eye, Virat Kohli once again reminded everyone why he is hailed as the king of chasing in T20 cricket. His unbeaten 62 off 45 balls was a perfect blend of grace, timing, and calculated aggression. Kohli rotated the strike beautifully and cashed in on every scoring opportunity.
His ability to anchor the innings while keeping the scoreboard ticking ensured RCB never lost momentum after Salt's departure. This innings also highlighted Kohli's adaptability, especially on a surface that wasn’t as flat as some other IPL venues.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Lone Battle for Rajasthan Royals
For Rajasthan Royals, Yashasvi Jaiswal stood tall amidst the ruins. His 75 from 47 balls kept RR in the game and laid the foundation for a potentially big score. However, the middle order failed to capitalise on his effort.
Skipper Sanju Samson (15), Riyan Parag (30), and Dhruv Jurel (35*) tried to support him, but RCB’s tight bowling strangled their scoring rate during crucial overs. Jaiswal's wicket in the 16th over proved to be the turning point as RR failed to accelerate in the death overs.
RCB’s Bowlers Deliver Yet Again
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowlers have been quietly doing their job this season, and once again, they executed their plans perfectly. Josh Hazlewood picked up the important wicket of Jaiswal and bowled economically. Krunal Pandya’s spin broke the opening stand by removing Samson, while Yash Dayal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar applied the brakes during the middle and death overs.
Suyash Sharma, despite going wicketless, kept the batters guessing with his variations. RCB's bowlers ensured that RR were restricted to a total that always looked under-par on a decent Jaipur pitch.
What Went Wrong for Rajasthan Royals?
RR’s batting failed to explode in the final overs. They managed just 47 runs in the last five overs, which wasn’t enough given RCB’s batting firepower. The bowling unit lacked penetration, with even Jofra Archer and Wanindu Hasaranga unable to make early inroads.
The absence of big wickets during the Powerplay allowed Salt and Kohli to settle and dominate. Without breakthroughs, RR's bowling looked flat and without answers.
