RCB’s Struggles with the Bat
Batting first after losing the toss, Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women posted a modest 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Skipper Smriti Mandhana’s struggles continued as she managed only 10 runs before falling to Tanuja Kanwar. Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (4) and Ellyse Perry (0) failed to make an impact, leaving RCB reeling early in the innings.
The middle order attempted to stabilize the innings, with Raghvi Bist (22 off 19) and Kanika Ahuja (33 off 28) showing resilience. However, RCB found it difficult to accelerate against Gujarat’s disciplined bowling attack. Georgia Wareham’s unbeaten 20 off 21 provided some late resistance, but the team’s total fell short of a competitive target.
Tanuja Kanwar was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat Giants, finishing with figures of 2/16, while Deandra Dottin (2/31) and Ashleigh Gardner (1/21) provided crucial breakthroughs.
Gujarat Giants’ Chase Led by Gardner and Litchfield
Chasing 126 for victory, Gujarat Giants Women got off to a steady start with Beth Mooney (17 off 20) and Dayalan Hemalatha (11 off 15) adding 25 runs for the first wicket. However, Renuka Singh Thakur struck twice, dismissing both openers to give RCB a fighting chance.
Despite the setbacks, Gujarat remained in control as captain Ashleigh Gardner took charge. She played a blistering knock of 58 off 31 balls, anchoring the chase and punishing the RCB bowlers with six boundaries and three sixes.
Phoebe Litchfield provided excellent support, scoring an unbeaten 30 off 21 deliveries at a strike rate of 142.86. Their 51-run partnership ensured Gujarat Giants reached the target comfortably in 16.3 overs, sealing a commanding six-wicket victory.
Bowlers Shine for Gujarat Giants
The disciplined Gujarat bowling attack played a crucial role in restricting RCB to a below-par total. Tanuja Kanwar and Deandra Dottin’s early breakthroughs set the tone, while Ashleigh Gardner and Kashvee Gautam applied pressure in the middle overs.
For RCB, Renuka Singh Thakur (2/24) was the standout performer with the ball, while Georgia Wareham (2/26) managed to create some trouble for the Gujarat batters. However, the lack of a defendable total proved costly for the Bengaluru side.
