RCB Women Edge Out Mumbai Indians in a High-Octane WPL 2025 Clash

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women claimed a thrilling 11-run victory over Mumbai Indians Women in the 20th match of the Women's Premier League 2025 at Brabourne Stadium. Led by captain Smriti Mandhana and a stellar performance from Player of the Match Sneh Rana, RCB kept their playoff hopes alive with a dominant batting display and disciplined bowling effort.

RCB Set a Challenging Target with a Powerful Batting Display

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Mumbai Indians Women looked to restrict a formidable RCB batting lineup. However, RCB's top order fired on all cylinders. Opener Sabbhineni Meghana set the tone with a quickfire 26 off 13 balls before Hayley Matthews dismissed her in the fourth over.

Captain Smriti Mandhana took charge, crafting a fluent 53 off 37 balls, striking six boundaries and a maximum. Partnering with Ellyse Perry, who remained unbeaten on 49 off 38 balls, the duo built a solid foundation. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh added to the momentum with a blistering 36 off just 22 balls, finding gaps with ease. Georgia Wareham's late flourish of 31 not out from 10 deliveries ensured RCB finished with a commanding total of 199/3 in 20 overs.

For Mumbai Indians, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr managed to pick up a wicket each, but their bowlers struggled to contain the aggressive RCB batters, with most conceding over eight runs per over.

Mumbai Indians’ Chase Falls Short Despite Sciver-Brunt's Heroics

Chasing a daunting 200-run target, Mumbai Indians Women needed a strong start. However, they faced early setbacks, losing Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr inside six overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt, known for her big-game temperament, led the resistance with a sensational 69 off 35 balls. She played attacking strokes, punishing RCB’s bowlers, and kept MI in the hunt.

Harmanpreet Kaur added 20 runs before falling to Kim Garth, while Amanjot Kaur and Yastika Bhatia struggled to accelerate the scoring. Despite a late surge from Sajeevan Sajana, who smashed 23 off 12 balls, MI could not close the gap, finishing at 188/9 in their 20 overs.

Sneh Rana was the standout performer with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets for just 26 runs in her four-over spell. Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth supported well, picking up two wickets each to derail Mumbai's chase.

Sneh Rana Shines as Player of the Match

Sneh Rana's all-round brilliance proved decisive. Her three-wicket haul, combined with an economical spell, restricted MI’s middle order from launching an effective counterattack. Her ability to strike at crucial moments tilted the game in RCB's favor, earning her the Player of the Match award.

What This Means for the Women's Premier League 2025 Standings

With this victory, Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women strengthened their position in the WPL 2025 standings, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Mumbai Indians Women, despite the loss, remain strong contenders but will need to regroup and address their bowling concerns.

Looking Ahead: Next Challenges for RCB and MI

Both teams will now shift their focus to the remaining matches in the league stage. RCB will aim to carry forward their momentum, while MI will look to bounce back stronger and fine-tune their strategy ahead of the knockouts.
