With a career-high 262 against Pakistan in the opening game of their ICC World Test Championship series in Multan, England's Joe Root has set a new record for rating points.
With 932 points, the top-ranked Test hitter has the fourth-highest total ever for his nation. Len Hutton (945), Jack Hobbs (942) and Peter May (941) are the three England batsmen who have scored more points.
Root hammered double hundreds against Sri Lanka at Lord's last month, falling just one point short of his previous career best of 923 rating points before collapsing to 899 at the close of the series. After contributing to a world-record fourth-wicket partnership of 454 with Harry Brook, which enabled England to declare at 823 for seven and win by an innings and 47 runs, he is once again on the rise.
Brook has moved up to share second place with New Zealand's Kane Williamson after scoring 317 off just 322 deliveries and winning Player of the Match. Other England batters to move up are Ben Ducket (up five spots to 14th) and Zak Crawley (up two places to 24th).
The three centurions for Pakistan in the game have also moved up the rankings. Abdullah Shafique has climbed two spots to 39th rank, Salman Ali Agha has gone up one spot to a career-best 22nd, while skipper Shan Masood has moved up twelve spots to 51st.
Gus Atkinson has moved up three spots to 23rd in the bowling rankings with four wickets, while spinner Jack Leach has moved up from 37th to 28th place with three for 160 and four for 30.
After smashing a match-winning 66 off 33 balls in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Dambulla, West Indies opener Brandon King has risen four spots to eighth in the batting rankings in the ICC Men's T20I Rankings, while Pathum Nissanka has risen three spots to 12th after hitting a knock of 54 in the second match of the series.
The other Sri Lankan players to move up the rankings are bowler Maheesh Theekshana (up five spots to fifth) and batting specialist Charitha Asalanka (up three spots to 36th). Meanwhile, spinner Gudakesh Motie of the West Indies has moved up two spots to second place.
Sanju Samson, an Indian batsman, has risen 91 places to 65th place in the batting rankings after smashing 111 off 47 deliveries in the third match against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, which helped India win the series 3-0. Nitish Kumar Reddy has moved up 255 places to 72nd place.
Notable advancements for India in the batting rankings have come from Rinku Singh (up 22 spots to 43rd) and Hardik Pandya (up 4 places to 59th), while spinner Ravi Bishnoi (up 4 places to eighth) has improved his bowling position.
Bangladesh's top gainers in the bowling rankings are Mustafizur Rahman (up one spot to 15th) and Taskin Ahmed (up 11 places to 19th), while Towhid Hridoy (up four places to 27th) and Liton Das (up two places to 40th) are among those who have improved in the batting rankings.
