Sarfaraz Relives 2017 Champions Trophy Glory, Backs PAK to Shine in 2025
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 is set to bring world-class cricket back to Pakistan (PAK), marking the country’s first senior ICC event since 1996. For Sarfaraz Ahmed, the excitement is unmatched as he recalls leading PAK to their historic 2017 CT victory.
2017: A Career-Defining Moment
Sarfaraz, who lifted the trophy in 2017, describes it as the best day of his cricket career. Despite the years gone by, the memories remain fresh, especially when he sees fans reliving the moment every June.
“Winning this trophy in 2017 was my career highlight. Every year, when the anniversary comes around, I see videos online, and it gives me goosebumps.”
PAK’s campaign in CT 2017 started with a heavy 124-run loss to IND, but a team meeting with senior players like Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez changed the squad’s mindset. From that point on, they became unstoppable, clinching dominant wins against SA, ENG, and IND in the final.
Pakistan’s Chances in CT 2025
With the tournament returning to PAK, Sarfaraz believes the team has a strong chance of defending their title. He points out that key players from 2017 Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman will be crucial again.
“Babar is a different player now mature and dominant. Fakhar can also make a big impact. With Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf in the attack, we have world-class bowling.”
The home advantage and high expectations will bring added pressure, but Sarfaraz trusts the fans to rally behind the team.
Biggest Contenders for the Title
While Sarfaraz backs PAK to go all the way, he acknowledges the stacked competition.
“AUS and IND are always strong. AFG, with their spin attack, will be dangerous in these conditions.”

The Intensity of PAK vs IND Matches
Every cricket fan knows that PAK vs IND clashes are more than just matches they’re events that captivate the world. Sarfaraz recalls the high-pressure final in 2017, where PAK delivered a stunning performance.
“I told the guys to relax and give 100%. When the final wicket fell, I just ran. The moment of lifting the trophy in front of thousands in Karachi was unforgettable.”
As PAK prepares for CT 2025, Sarfaraz hopes history repeats itself, with another moment of glory for the home team.
