The schedule of matches for the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup in Malaysia in 2025 was released today by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Over the course of 15 days from January 18 to February 2, 2025, sixteen teams from around the globe will compete in a 41-match event where the future stars of women's cricket will make their debuts. In addition to these thrilling games, 16 warm-up matches will be held from January 13–16 to get ready for the main event.
Following a great debut in South Africa in 2023, where India defeated England by seven wickets in an exciting final to become the tournament's first-ever winners, this fascinating tournament is back for a second edition. Samoa and Malaysia will be competing in their first-ever ICC World Cup events, along with Malaysia's debut in the U19 Women's T20 World Cup.
The teams will be divided into four groups, each consisting of four teams.
On January 18, there will be a triple header to start the frenzy. England plays Ireland in Johor, while Pakistan plays the USA in Group B. Samoa will play the qualifier from Africa, New Zealand will play South Africa in Group C at Sarawak, Australia will play Scotland, and Bangladesh will play the qualifier from Asia in Group D at UKM YSD Oval in Selangor.
The current champions, India, will take on the West Indies on January 19. Earlier in the day at Bayuemas Oval, hosts Malaysia will play Sri Lanka.
Teams will advance from the Group rounds of the format to the Super Six stage, which begins on January 25. In this stage, two groups of six teams will play each other to determine the semi-finalists and the winners. India will play in Semi-Final 2 on January 31 at 14:30 local time, if they advance to the semi-finals. Here is a downloadable infographic that goes over the format of the event.
Geoff Allardice, CEO of the ICC, stated: "We are excited to reveal the schedule for the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup's second edition and to bring an ICC event of this caliber to Malaysia for the first time since the U19 Men's Cricket World Cup in 2008."
"This is a unique occasion for the ICC and a crucial component of our global growth strategy to increase the popularity of women's cricket globally. It's also a fantastic chance to present the next generation of sports stars to our big international viewership.
"We are excited to expand upon the success of the groundwork established during the inaugural event in South Africa in 2023. We're wishing the Malaysian Cricket Association all the luck in the world as they prepare for the tournament, as well as all the teams.
"Malaysia is proud to host the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup in 2025, continuing our tradition of supporting the growth of cricket on the global stage," stated Dinesh Muthuraman, the host tournament director for the ICC U19 Women's World Cup 2025. We had the privilege of hosting the U19 Men's Cricket World Cup in 2008, where a number of current stars, like Trent Boult, Kane Williamson, and Virat Kohli, displayed their skills. It's women's cricket's moment now, and we have no doubt that the U19 Women's T20 World Cup will serve as a springboard for the sport's upcoming stars.
"Women's cricket is growing at a rate never seen before, in Malaysia and beyond. We have every confidence that this World Cup will build on that momentum and bring about important changes to the game, particularly for women's cricket. Premier locations for the matches include the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak, the Dato' Dr. Harjit Singh Johor Cricket Academy (JCA) Oval in Johor, and the Bayuemas Oval and UKM YSD Oval in Selangor. Malaysia is excited to welcome these rising stars and support them as they pursue their cricket careers.
"I would like to express our profound gratitude to the International Cricket Council on behalf of the Malaysian Cricket Association for giving us this esteemed event. Our goal is to create an unforgettable and prosperous competition that highlights Malaysia's capacity to organize top-tier athletic events."
With Thailand pulling out of the World Cup as co-host, Malaysia will now serve as the only host nation.
