Sehwag Predicts Explosive Finish as ILT20 S3 Heads to Grand Finale

As the DP World ILT20 Season 3 approaches its climactic finish, Indian cricket legend Virender Sehwag has set the stage for what he believes will be two thrilling contests. With Sharjah Warriorz (SW) and Desert Vipers (DV) set to clash in Qualifier 2, the winner will face Dubai Capitals (DC) in the final on February 9 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Sehwag, who has been a part of ILT20 since its inception as a commentator, highlighted the batting-friendly pitches in UAE, which have produced several high-scoring thrillers.

Sehwag Praises UAE Tracks for High-Scoring Matches

Speaking about his experience of playing in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi, Sehwag expressed his admiration for the wickets in UAE, which he believes are ideal for big scores and thrilling finishes.

“I have enjoyed batting in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. These are lovely batting tracks. Hopefully, the next two games will be absolute crackers. We’ve already seen a last-ball finish between DC and DV, and I’m sure the final two games will be just as exciting,” said the former India opener.

With power-hitters and in-form batters dominating the season, Sehwag is confident that fans will be treated to explosive cricket in the final two matches.

ILT20's Rapid Growth – A League to Watch

Since its launch, the DP World ILT20 has grown into one of the most exciting T20 leagues globally. Sehwag emphasized its impact on UAE cricket, comparing it to the IPL’s role in shaping Indian cricket.

“I think the ILT20 is one of the best leagues. Just like the IPL is great for Indian cricket, ILT20 is a game-changer for UAE players. What makes this league unique is the presence of nine international players per team, something not seen in any other franchise competition,” he noted.

Sehwag also praised the high-quality international cricketers participating in the league, which is giving local UAE talents invaluable experience.

“This is my third year as a commentator in ILT20, and I’ve seen some great international players come in and raise the level of competition. The league is getting bigger and better every year, and the number of 200-plus scores we’ve seen this season shows just how exciting the matches have been.”

Sehwag’s Dream ILT20 Partnership – David Warner

When asked which batter he would love to form a partnership with in ILT20, Sehwag named Australia’s David Warner. The DC opener smashed an unbeaten 93 against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) to power his team into the playoffs.

“Warner’s aggression and ability to dominate bowlers is incredible. Watching him bat this season has been a treat. If I had to pick a partner in ILT20, it would be him,” Sehwag stated.

Should Indian Players Join ILT20?

The debate over Indian players participating in overseas T20 leagues continues, and Sehwag believes that retired Indian cricketers should get the opportunity to showcase their skills in ILT20.

“I would love to see Indian players in this league. If someone like Dinesh Karthik who is still playing is allowed, why not more? Yuvraj Singh would have been perfect for ILT20 with his six-hitting ability. Hopefully, we’ll see more Indian names in the future.”
