Shakib Al Hasan Cleared to Bowl in ECB Competitions

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been officially cleared to bowl in ECB competitive county cricket and The Hundred after passing an independent re-assessment of his bowling action at Loughborough University earlier this month.

Following an evaluation by an independent panel, the assessment confirmed that Shakib had successfully remedied his bowling action, bringing it within the 15-degree threshold outlined in the ECB Bowling Review Regulations.

Background on Suspension

Shakib’s bowling action came under scrutiny during his stint with Surrey in the Rothesay County Championship match against Somerset in September 2024, where he was reported by the standing umpires. Subsequent analysis at Loughborough University revealed that his action exceeded the permitted limit, leading to an official suspension from bowling in ECB competitions starting 10 December 2024.

Since then, Shakib has worked extensively on modifying his action to comply with the regulations, and his recent clearance ensures that he will now be eligible to contribute with both bat and ball in England’s domestic competitions for the 2025 season.

Shakib’s return to bowling in ECB tournaments is expected to bolster any team he represents, reinforcing his value as one of the most experienced and impactful all-rounders in world cricket. His availability for county cricket and The Hundred will be a significant boost for his prospective teams as they prepare for the upcoming season.
